This looks like an interesting opportunity. Essentially you are only allowed to use one word so really the emphasis is on describing the action. More info on the website above.
My One Word - short screenplay competition
Ha.
One word used several times, or one word used once?
I think it's just one word used once.
Presumably, they mean one word of dialogue. Otherwise, they'd just get a thousand entries for "FADE".
Actually...

"How you interpret the One Word rule is up to you, for example, a word could be repeated in different languages in order to convey the story."
OK, now I'm confused. In their rules it says it needs to be in English, unless that just refers to describing the action.
I think they need a more comprehensively written rule guide.
After they get hundreds of emails asking them what the heck they mean, I suspect it will be rewritten quite soon!
It must be one word of dialogue.
I was going to enter one with the word "Taxi", but I fear recent events have scuppered that idea.
At the minute all I can come up with are what basically amount to shit music videos.
Either Chris Morris is running this, or the organisers have really badly worded it.
I presume what they really mean when they say "screenplays can only have one word" is actually "screenplays can only have one word of dialogue" . But who f**king knows...
It looks more like a filming opportunity. Pointing at trees and the sea and saying "Awesome" occasionally should work. I don't have any desire to make films but if you use this idea and win please just send cash.
Has anyone emailed them for clarification?

I tried, but all enquiries to them can only consist of one word, and I'm finding it difficult to express my query.
My interpretation ...
Writers must choose one word, but this one word can be used multiple times.
A bit like ... a sports clothing advert; with one word - Nike - being used several times over images or action.
I could, of course, be wrong.

would WTF? count as one word.
I can't believe they want up to three pages of the same word used over and over again for directions and dialogue to be interpreted by a director.
They say MY ONE WORD is inspired by the proverb "a picture is worth a thousand words" and we want to inspire you to create fresh, powerful stories using images and just one word.
You need multiple different words to create those images in a screenplay. So I take it they want a silent short with only one word of dialogue.
They've used a whole page of website text to NOT get that point across.
On the right hand side of the page linked to above, the end of the first paragraph does say one word of dialogue. I'm not reading that as multiple uses. Loads of visuals, one spoken word.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious anyone?
