Breaking news... the Screenwriters Festival that was held in Cheltenham is apparently no more but there is a completely new one soon be launched. Tickets will be extremely limited so watch this space. Will say more once information is made available.
OK, the launch was tonight. I know a few BSGers went and enjoyed it last year. This one is different but sounds like a lot more interesting (I had a chat with one of the organisers) Anyhow, get limited priced tickets now. Apparently its a smaller event than SWF09. Oh use the code 'comedy' for a £37 discount! Who else is going this time?

I think its a must for any writer wanting to make those contacts that can make your script made/improved.
I've found out that there is some validity in knowing the right people. Well these events are how you get to know them. I knew no one a year ago and after the event had two interested agents, two prodco's and a producer attached to a feature I'm working on. Plus loads of writer contacts and friends.

Well, once-again, 400-odd people will be saying otherwise this weekend. This type of event has been running for a few years now and in the past has cost a lot more and been set in Cheltenham. So I wouldn't brush it off so lightly.
Writers come. Why? Because what's on offer. The latest industry advice and lessons plus being able to meet the decision makers and agents and not be unsolicited to the biggest players in the market.
After last year, not only did I have a great idea of what sells, I had the top contacts to sell it to. I also made friends with other filmmakers that have already more than financially paid for last year and this year.
Just saying.
I'm not brushing it off.
It does sound like a good opp. But out of my price range at this moment in time.
It's a beano basically, Industry people can write if off against tax and hobnob and network etc I guess. Personally I think they should just have a big section set aside at something like the London Beer Festival at Olympia,

That did sound a bit like brushing it off.

It's just a bit expensive, with London accomodation et all.
Still. Much cheaper than a £600 Broadcast Comedy Forum pass.
I could write it off as a tax expense too, as I'm self employed.
But just havent got the spondoolicks at the mo.
