Okay. I'm not a pessimistic person. I WILL make it as a successful writer one day. I never thought about the number of sketches they'd have to look at. I could yet receive something. But they may wait until all the sketches have been looked at and then send all emails out at the same time. If that is the case, then I haven't made it further.
Interesting opportunity for writers Page 7
Quote: Matthew Stott @ July 19, 2007, 7:50 PMJust had an e-mail back about the sketches i submitted for their brief. Ive got ten pieces in the YES and MAYBE (if you fiddle with them a bit) piles, which Im pretty over the moon with. Theyve asked me to re-write some, and to also send some more new stuff; so Im one happy chappy at the moment. Obviously doesnt mean anything will end up in the finished show, as they said in an e-mail to me, they will be recording around forty percent more than actually gets into the broadcast shows. Anyway, ill let you know if anything transpires. Anyone else who got asked to submit heard anything more yet?
Thats impressive - well done mate!
Congratulations Matthew and good luck to all of you still in the running. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
WEll done mate!

Just heard yesterday and they've asked if they could record a sketch for the show. They seem to like one of my recurring sketch ideas and have asked me to expand on that and write a few more (they're quite easy to 'drop-in' and apparently suit the theme/style of the show). Don't know what this means with regards to the other bunch of sketches I sent in (they asked me to rewrite four and send in another five if I wanted to) but suspect those rewrites didn't make it.
I got the same info re: 40-50% of recorded stuff getting into the final programme. I assume this could be used if it makes it to series, but what do I know -- I'm just a writer!). Also, they've said that they'll let me know beforehand if they're recording the material and a short while later if it makes it to the final cut.
I was one happy chappy beforehand anyway as Play & Record wanted a sketch and let me know two hours before Angel Eye emailed me! So buzzing!
Dan
Well done on both!

Nice one mr Stott - best of luck with it.
Yeah - well done! (Bastards!)
Kisses and congrats
Don't know if anybody remembers this far back, but a few BSGers (Tom_Pk, Matthew Stott and myself) got some sketches recorded for Angel Eye's (then) Onliners for BBC Radio Scotland.
Well, they were recorded way back when (end of August-ish, if I remember correctly) for a two-episode pilot.
Well, just heard that the episodes are finally (and I *mean* finally!) being broadcast this coming week. The show has since been renamed Grrr! and part one is due for broadcast on Friday 18th April at 6pm, followed by the second episode the week after on Friday 25th at the same time.
We've had the opportunity to hear and, personally, I think it's a well put-together show which is very funny (in my opinion). Anyway, BBC Radio Scotland is available on-line and certain types of DAB (and possibly on cable and satellite) and will be available for a week afterwards for your delectation.
Hope everyone enjoys (and also that they use the same writing team if any sort of commission happens!)
Cheers
Dan
Well done on getting stuff in.
I'd be interested to know whether you made your sketches specifically 'Scottish' for this show?

As would I. Did you write specifially 'Scottish' material or stick "hoots mon" in existing sketches?

No, none of the sketches (as far as I recall) in the show were particularly Scottish. The brief was very much "anything-goes" a la Play & Record. I think the brief is still hanging around in the Chortle forums as noted somewhere further up this link if you wanted to see specifically what was asked for.

This should work if anyone wants to listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radioscotland_aod.shtml?scotland/feature4_fri
