Well, it was Cliff.
He probably deserved it.

Thank God for fascism eh?
Quote: zooo @ May 16 2008, 11:05 PM BSTI'm not bored enough yet, but I'm sure I will be later.
Thing is, it's just normal members of the public who vote in all the countries, right?
No - some countries still have their own 'juries' who decide who the votes go to. Those are both almost certainly political, AND more reflective of the true musical values at the same time.
The whole contest is rubbish.
Oh I didn't know that. That's a bit poo.
Just a bit, yes!

It sure is but if you are trapped in on the evening it is on and can't change your channel - enjoy Wogan's acerbic wit. Last year Australian TV showed the show without Wogan's blarney and got so many complaints that they had to re-broadcast it with his commentary!
Hahah! Brilliant!
I love that he's now actually banned from Denmark. There's just something special about that.
It's still a great spectacle and a good laugh if you're not worried about good music.

Please tell me how to get banned from Denmark? I would like to join that club
Denmark is actually a lovely place. Copenhagen is the only place outside of the UK I could really see myself living, if for some reason I literally HAD to leave.
Anyway.
Basically, they weren't amused when he referred to their hosts (2001 it was held there) as "Dr. Death and the Tooth Fairy". The BBC had to issue a formal apology to the country!

Blimey, good old Tel ... sense of humour failure in Dansk I suspect?
Haha, yes, evidently certain relevant parties weren't amused! I doubt the general public could care less though.
I must confess to being a bit of a fan. Nice to hear what kind of music is being played abroard. The voting though agreed is a joke. I always remember watching it with my Gran and Grandad year after year and all the argument was about was what country everybody hated. I tried to be liberal minded with them but you know what old people are like. My Grandma hated the French and the Russians and my Grandad still didn't find himself able to forgive the Germans. HAPPY DAYS.
Your grandparents sound brilliant!
Haven't read the thread but my opinion, because I know you care so much - I don't watch this because I don't like it.
