Oh, the computer was meant to be French? I missed the first half of the episode.

No, there was no suggestion as to the origin of the laptop - unless you wish to read that a French call centre worker means that the machine was French too.

I didn't get the idea that the IT support place was supposed to be *in* France. I assumed the rest of the room were English and they just got the unintelligible one.

I didn't even get that he was necessarily French actually, just ridiculously 'foreign'.

That's what I thought; they just got some guy with a pretty unintelligible voice, that slipped all over the place, I didn't think he was supposed to be French, strictly.

I don't think that Linehan knew what nationality he was either. He tends to not worry about these things. the point is that he wasn't Bangladeshi etc. for the reasons nogget gives above.

Quite possibly, yes. Not really a problem though.

I thought the Kevin Eldon character was Dutch. I don't understand all this "He's French!" nonsense.

The 'notes' ending was really disappointing. I have to admit that.

The character was credited as "French Tech Support". So let's put that argument to rest now.

No, let's keep going.

Do you read the credits or something, maaaaaan?

He should have done an Irish character. Lineham knows Irish & if he pulled his finger out he could probably combine the weird Irish logic with IT joke situations.

As it was, the 'frenchman' was a flop.

Father Ted's sidekick, would make an excellent IT telephone-support person.

The Irish prefer letting the French handle things.

Yeah, but the show's already got an Irish IT chap in Roy.

Is this a historical Jacobite reference?

Is he, I hadn't noticed.

In any case Roy is fairly thoroughly Anglicized. He doesn't do Irish things or Irishisms.
