Beautiful Baby.

FX: Baby gurgling

Colin:
Ah look at him, he's so happy, ahh Daddy's little boy.

Julia:
He is the most the most beautiful baby in the world, yes you are!

Colin:
Well let's not go that far, ...he's not going to win any awards is he?

Julia:
What are you talking about, he's gorgeous.

Colin:
No he's not gorgeous! He really, really isn't! It's hardly surprising though, I mean It's basic genetics, the thing is, you & I are not very good looking people.

Julia:
Speak for yourself, I'd be well out of your league, if it wasn't for the eyebrows.

Colin:
Look we're not talking about you're bizarre eyebrows, we're discussing our ugly child, please let's have some decorum.

Julia:
I just can't believe you really think that our child is ugly, why didn't you say something before, maybe you should have said something at the hospital.

Colin:
Now you're being silly, there's nothing they could do anyway, I checked!

Julia:
Listen to me Colin! Our baby is beautiful! I have never seen a more beautiful baby and I never will. Ok!

Colin:
What about,. Dave & Sues kid.

Julia:
Well that's not fair, Dave & Sue are both really good looking.

Colin:
That little kid of theirs? It's like looking at springtime in a pram.

Julia:
You don't need to have it as your screensaver though.

Colin:
Don't worry dear, I don't think that our child is hideous

Julia:
Oh well that's a relief!

Colin:
He's definitely better looking than Barrys youngest.

Julia:
Which one's that?

Colin:
The one there, in the field trip photo.

Julia:
Nonsense! That's a lovely little thing, all dressed up in pink.

Colin:
No not that baby, that one over there.

Julia:
That's not a baby!

Colin:
It is, I promise you.

Julia:
My God what have they done to it?

Colin:
Don't look at it directly, it's bad luck.

Julia:
So all you're saying is that Thomas is better looking than that thing.

Colin:
Don't call it a thing darling that's rude, It's just an innocent, hideous looking Baby.

Julia:
So you're saying that our child is ugly, but at least he's slightly better looking than that... atrocity of an offspring.

Colin:
In a nutshell yes! But because he's ours I'm probably a bit biased.

END

It's a nice idea and plays well but it's a bit to true to life. I could imagine lots of families having this conversation. Maybe give it a harsher edge?

Good, and an excellent pay off, but I would look to see if you could trim it down a little. Not sure where, but it just did not feel it quite warranted the length.

I think it's really funny

The dialogue is a bit unnatural, but there are some good lines in it. Could do with being more pacey. But as an idea it's not too bad.

Cheers all.

I knwo what you mean.
It was a rewrite & I think the dialogue lost teh little bit of realism it had along the way.

But saying that, most of the radio sketches I've heard are unnatural. In a kind of we're-obviously-a-comedy-c-listen-to-the-odd-tone-in-our-voice. Of course not all are like this, but there is definitely an annoying pattern being played out somewhere.

There are some very good lines, such as the above, but it feels like a sketch I've heard a lot before. I can't tell you where, but it seems a very familiar idea.

Agree with what someone else said , about the dialogue needing a once over too.

Love it Steve. Thought it flowed really well and the characters were brill. I liked the pay off and screensaver lines best.
