Thoughts anyone? Page 2

I'm hoping Marc P can throw light on the subject in a thought-provoking yet entertaining episode of Doctors. :)

Where some poor dying boy is given blood by evil Doctors, goes on to live a decent enough life, but then goes to hell. The final shot would be him crying whilst being bummed by some sort of half goat, half evil doctor beast.

I must watch Doctors again if this is the sort of episodes they're broadcasting.

You have to have that special mushroom omelette first Chip!

Did Jack Black write that episode?

This is just one of several religious practises which should be banned, and possibly by extension, the faiths that extols such barbarity should be also brought to book. It's not good enough if children are dying through ignorance/superstition, we need to protect them.

Wow, you didn't get so upset in the 'ban the burka' thread. You were all about keeping 'big brother' in its place.

How is it barbaric to refuse a blood transfusion but it is not barbaric to subjugate women into walking sheets? Sure, the few examples of Jehovas Witnesses dying because they have refused a blood transfusion are frustrating, but I am not sure who you are going to establish as the right and reasonable adjudicator of what is proper religious belief and what should be banned.

Tell me why the Jehova Witness doctrine of denying blood transfusion is 'ignorant/superstitious'. Or are you not really sure why they hold this particular belief?

Religion is always a mixture of the two, isn't it . . ?

Because children don't die wearing Burkas Deckard...

(If they do I'm reallllly sorry for my sarcastic comment).

I do it's a misinterpratation of the laws on ritual slaughter. Based on them following a discredited later translation of Biblical texts.

But it goes with homophobia, millinialism, bullying and a whole slew of other nasty habits associated with right wing fundamentalism.

But no, their women can show their faces.

Law should supersede religion.

Somehow, I don't think this is how a JW would explain it.

This is a red herring.

Law should supersede religion.

well if that doesn't just gives me the warm fuzzies. But which law? British common law, American common law, Continental law, Islamic Sharia?

The fact is 'law' is no more than an accepted social contract, there is nothing inherently reasonable about the law. And I won't even get into the bad laws that have been/are/and will be implemented.

I'm not a JW and I think that they believe some kooky, irrational things, but I believe that there are just as many secularists/atheists/humanists who believe things that are also quite kooky and irrational. The statement 'law should supersede religion' sounds righteous, but it is, in fact, an empty bromide that makes the secularist feel better about forcing their morals on others while condemning religious people when they do it.

Law is distilled like whiskey. It's under a process of perpetual refinement.

Religious belief is frozen in time. And it was f**king stale before they froze it.
