The all in one Consolidatorised Cricket Thread Page 19

Sorry, no thanks to Broad at all. He should be suspended for his actions. ICC have to clamp down this dishonesty, Cricket should not be about winning ruthlessly by any means fair or foul. That game's called football. Not walking for such blatant dismissals is not cricket and it lessens the achievement when we win. We're acting like Australians. :(

Not his fault the umpire is a clown

And Aussies never never never ever walk in those situations

Why should we?

Because we are British, come on now. The whole point of cricket was to teach the world how to play fairly, how to behave with grace and honour, how to be sporting, etc etc. These acts now are to the contrary of that honourable code.

Quite right Alfred.

Although, I played cricket for 20 odd years (1st team keeper for a lot of that) so I witnessed a lot of sledging and cheating in that time.

In the main though - 99% walked if the umpires finger went up.
I had one or two batters say to me 'that was never f**king out' which I always replied with 'look in the Spenborough Guardian next Friday to see if you were out or not'

Yes but the finger did not go up - he said not out

Yes that's good to hear that most club players walk, I'd have thought most do. Watched the odd little game and they play to the spirit much more than our national team do! 20 years a wicky, you must have sore knees and hands.

I know but the batsman should really do the honest thing and give himself out, you do see test players doing it still, the South Africans in particular are very good at this aspect. it takes a bit of moral fibre that's all.

I actually meant to say that 99% walked 'before' the finger went up.
None of this waiting and petulance. You know when you are out.

And yes, my knees and back are shot.

But surely that is too much pressure to put on a player. Test cricket is serious business, games are decided by fine margins. Broad, like all the England team, is a finely honed athlete with a ferocious desire to win.

If he walks, there are many that will criticise him for it. If he stays, he gets the same.

The solution? By guided entirely by the Umpire's call. It is more likely you will be given out when you are not than the other way round anyway.

Broad had every right to stay. By the same token, England should not bemoan a bad decision.

Wow

This is an amazing first test

I've heard people say there's no future for test match cricket with 20/20 about n stuff

Nonsense!

It's pure drama when it's a test like this one

Yes the drama of 2005 is straight back so far. Okay, some dodgy umpiring and one or two bad bits of cricket but The Ashes delivers again! It's not so much pure cricket or sport, it's more like a five day East Enders special with a bat and ball. It's riveting.

An Aussie win not out of the question imo. Will be the record but they have all day!

Getting nervous...

Only 1 wicket needed

But the Aussies are getting closer and closer...

Gulp!

COME ON ENGLAND FFS!!

You just can't take your ears off TMS !

We are going to lose....

The Aussies a bit unlucky
