I've never actually listened to a Byrds album...

If you can stomach a bit of country, then this ones a belter; has Gram Parsons as a band member too:

If you can stomach a bit of psychedelic rock, then this ones a belter; has David Crosby as a band member too:

Now downloading Four Sail by Love after listening to a few songs on YouTube. Sounds good.

Not a band, but Paul Williams, writer of Rainy days and Mondays, Evergreen, The rainbow connection and many others. His albums are hard to get hold of and his voice is not to everyones taste, but I rate him very highly as the king of MOR. He also wrote the music to most of the Muppet movies. A stone cold musical God.

The Blockheads were amazing musicians
KLF where genuinely odd ball

Agree with both of those. Brilliant bands.

I've never really got into Four Sail but the others are great.

If you haven't got the patience to listen to the long track on Da Capo (Revelations?) I would concentrate on the shorter songs which are wonderful - especially "She comes in colours" which should be a classic.

Suicide are one of the more underrated bands of the punk/postpunk era. Raw as hell despite using a sythesizer:
