Being deprived of a decent education as a result of attending state school, I was also tutored privately at home.
I understand grammar rules. (Off topic:That darn apostrophe has been omnipotent since the beginning. My surname ends in "s")
It is a sad indictment of our education system when foreign language teachers are having to point out to English teachers that the pupils are unfamiliar with the fundamental rules of grammar.

Completely true, but grammar is very annoying. When I got to uni, my seminar leader had to sit us down and teach us about intransitive and transitive verbs. No idea why we need to learn it though.
I have no idea what intransitive and transitive verbs are, but grammar is good.
