My Family - Series 10

I think there's been some mention of this being a possible storyline in the past, but it seems to have now been confirmed that Michael will come out during the forthcoming tenth series of My Family.

What do fans think?

I'm a bit apprehensive as to how they can handle it without seeming to be re-writing the whole character ground-up. He's had a string of girlfriends in previous series, and even been portrayed as quite the 'ladies man' at times. I guess it could be done convincingly, if he has a gradual realisation of some form, but it'll be tricky.

It's an interesting development and they seeme to be attempting to really shake it up a bit. I'm looking forward to the next series. When is it going to be aired?

Could be at almost any time. I would guess a little later on during the Summer.

Although I've known about this for months, I just thought it was a storyline that covered the entire series (as I've been told), I had no idea it was all apart of the shake-up of the series. Quite looking forward to watching it now. When it airs. IF It ever bloody airs (hint, hint, BBC)!

They do! :) Hence the introduction of Alfie's replacement, Scott. :)

I thought this had had way more than just ten series.

No it just feels like it.

Surely it has to be a contender for being one of the longest running sitcoms. I can only think of a few that have ran for years and years without resorting to specials every few years (Only Fools) and had series after series after series.

Longest running by what measurement? Number of episodes, series, timespan between first and last...?

mainly years as in from year to year but only counting those that have had continuing series and havent just lasted on specials such as Only Fools or Vicar of Dibley etc and without massive gaps such as Ab Fab.

I can think of a few that have gone on

Last of The Summer Wine
2point4 Children
My Family
2 Pints of Lager

By episode count I can't think of many UK ones that have passed 100

Birds of a Feather
My Family
Last of The Summer Wine
did Never the Twain do it as well?

pmsl at what I nearly put instead of the word 'count'

Never The Twain had 67 episodes over 11 series and as many years.

ChuckleVision's actually had more episodes than any other TV sitcom. Since 1987 they've had 293 broadcast, narrowly beating LOTSW's 289.

Anyway, we should really get back on topic now.

Don't forget, though, that many ChuckleVision episodes were only fifteen minutes long.

But, seriously, Michael gay? In the past, he's lost his virginity, tried to bed girls repeatedly (in that episode when they were quarantined in the house he was actually in bed with a gorgeous blonde), has had countless girlfriends, , has been on adult porn sites and has 'magazines' in his drawer. Plus, we can't forget that he once fancied Abby.

Would have been better if Janey was a lesbian

We weren't debating episode length though!

Indeed; hence my apprehension. I think it could still be done, but it'll be pretty difficult.

I always thought he had quite a gay feel to him. Especially when he was younger. But even when he came back with bleached hair and muscles etc he still had quite a gay look!

I suppose they'll just use the girl mad past as denial or something.
I don't remember them doing any serious/emotional storylines before though, so either the style of writing is about to change, or they'll address it in their usual quite superficial way.
