Shows that you remember but no one else does! Page 24

I remember this being a bit of a peculiar show:

I remember a saturday morning kids show called Outer Space from 1973. It was set on a space ship and had dinosaurs in it, I really loved it, It was replaced by bloody Noel Edmunds and his swap shop. Does anyone else recall this, as most people tell me I imagined it. I have traced it on the net but it is very sketchy.

The writers of Doctor Who?

It could have been, but it was quite a cheap show, a basic set, some stock footage and a cartoon show as I recall. It came on after the Ali Bongo cartoon show

Children Of The Stones?

Everyone remembers that. Like Stewart Lee, for example:

Thanks I enjoyed that.

I watched it again on DVD a few years ago, and still enjoyed it. Sad that British TV will no longer attempt fantasy for adults, let alone children, unless it is dumbed down to primary colours and does not take itself seriously.

In similar vein I remember a radio programme on Oliver Postgate, in which the Head of Children's Television explained why they could never make the lost Noggin the Nog episodes, because they were not exciting enough for children today. Which is found unconvincing because I had shown them to my nieces when they were an appropriate age and they had been absolutely enchanted. It is like when the Beeb attempted to revive Jackanory - it was not enough to have an actor reading the story and a few line drawings, there had to be lots enactments and whizzy CGI to keep the kids interested, as if wonderful writing and storytelling were not enough do so.

I just mentioned Doctor Who because you appeared to be recounting the plot of a recent (dire) episode.

It is a wonder we did not all turn out more disturbed than we are. Hartley was the glove puppet of nightmares, while that troubadour was the one who put the 'fairy' in fairy tale.

Pipkins appeared to be of it's time

In that it looks like it was written by someone stoned out of their arse on acid

that said , me and my sister loved it

Does anyone recall 'The Lofthouse Half Hour Variety and Minstrel Show'?

Pipkins.
