Continuing Dramas, as they like to be called, still get big ratings and are likely with us for a long time yet.
That's the poncy self reverential title that those tossers at the BBC came up with to con us into thinking we're getting quality instead of cheap easy to make crap. They attract high viewings not by being good to watch but by insidiously becoming part of a lot of lonely people's lives, whereby the characters become the loyal friends the viewer has never had because they're too busy sitting on their harris watching their favourite soaps.

Ah, for the days when every episode of The Bill consisted of Burnside and the rest of CID trying to catch a villain, only for uniform to nick said villain for some minor motoring offence or other.
Then there would be a scene where one of CID would overhear a couple of plods talking about the villain: "Hang on Reg, did you just say 'John McBurglar'?" "Yes guv, we got him in the cells now!". End of episode. It worked and it filled half an hour.
Sums up the show rather well.

Two massive shows I've never really watched are The Bill and Mr. Bean. I can count the amount of times I've watched the former on one hand.
According to Broadcast, ITV are set to replace The Bill with a medical drama. Oh to have the cutting-edge creative mind of a TV executive!
