Didn't Stephen King write a short story about a killer mangle? Which was later adapted into a film? 
I think the washing machine was actually played by a tumble dryer.

Wasn't there a big furore over the fact that in the book the tumble dryer was "chic black" but in the film the tumble dryer was actually "kitchen appliance white" but spray-painted to look black?
