Goal Setting

I'm looking into the subject of goals and goal setting for work.

No doubt all the writers on here have dreams.

But who actually has a formal set of goals written down?

By that I mean, goals that you can measure and a time to achieve them by?

ie

I will have a sitcom in production within 3 years.

And not

I want to be rich and famous?

It's futile to sets goals dependant on circumstance outside one's own control. For example, having a sitcom in production. As distinct from finishing a sitcom script. Unless, I suppose, you intend to give up should your script not be in production. I've set myself a goal of a produced sketch a week this year. And a TV broadcast credit. Nearly there!

So in answer,

Yes, you have set yourself a stuctured goal. Excellent.

Are you on target with the first one?

No.

I don't have any real set down goals; just the hope of taking more and more steps forward, and as few as possible backwards.

But taking steps forward to where Matthew?

I plan to be as big as Graham Linehan by the end of next year, but the limb lengthening operations aren't going so well.

Towards getting my own sitcom broadcast on TV, so it can have it's very own thread on here, slagging the shit out of it! We've all gotta have dreams.

This is part of what I'm reserching.

Dreams aren't goals.

Goals are SMART

* S Specific
* M Measurable
* A Attainable
* R Relevant
* T Time-bound

Add a time related element to your dream and then I think you have a goal. A goal that you can work towards, as you say by moving forward step by step.

I know this was a funny!

But this is almost a goal.

It is specific, it is measurable, it is attainable, and it has a time element.

But is it realistic?

In the time frame, I think not.

My long term goal is to write up a list of short term goals

You don't know how tall I am! ;)

He's got a point there.
It may just be a case of going up on tippy toes.

Ah...its a tall related goal.

Therefore "Big" is not specific enough!

I should be charging you lot a fortune for this session.
