Movie Catchphrases

A quickie I've just written in ten minutes, as you can probably tell.

Judge: You stand accused of illegally downloading copyrighted films. The list is as follows: Ghostbusters 1 AND 2

Accused: Sorry Judge, before we start my solicitor isn't here yet, do.you mind if I quickly call him?

Judge: Who are you going to call?

Accused: My solicitor.

Judge: I say again, who you 'gunna call ?

Accused: (Despondently) Ghostbusters

Judge: That's better.

Accused: (on Phone) Where are you? Good. (To Judge) He's coming in now.

Judge: Then we shall continue. Ghostbusters 1 AND 2, The shining,

SOUND OF DOORS BURSTING OPEN
Solicitor: Here's Johnny!

Judge: Haha, Very good sir, very good indeed.

Solicitor: Thank you Judge.

Judge: Ghostbusters 1 and 2, The Shining and finally, Jerry Maguire.

Solicitor: (tutting) Getting caught downloading Jerry Maguire, how embarrassing.

Judge: I find the defendant guilty. You know what I'm going to say now don't you?

Defendant: (Dejected) Yes judge

Judge: What am I going to say?

Defendant: (Increasingly Dejectedly) Show me the money.

Sorry, didn't really work for me.

What Chopz said.

There's a good idea in there but I don't think you've nailed it. It's worth a complete rewrite - start from scratch and don't crowbar the movie lines in, they need to seem more realistic instead of just plonked there.

^ this is a more helpful version of what I said and I would like to second it

Hey Mick,

I felt as though you thought up a good idea and then jumped in with it without really thinking hard about the structure/jokes.

It is very close to my idea with my Jim & Joan running sketches. https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/13275/

Cheers
Craig

the punches are shoe horned in, try not to explain the joke.
Just leave it at

Don't really get the Jerry Mcguire one, I'm sure there are better films with well known lines.

Quickly thought up:

Judge: So its, Ghostbusters 1 and 2, the Shining and Star Wars Episode IV, which you say is for your uncle?

Uncle(in viewing gallery): No, I am his father!

Judge: OK, so Ghostbusters 1 and 2, the shining, star wars epsiode IV, for your now father and Goodfellas.

Accused: (Laugh)

Judge: Do you find me funny sir?

ETC ETC ETC

"Show me the money" has to be one of the best known movie lines of recent times. And I've never even seen Jerry Maguire. On the Rat Race DVD, there's an excellent outtake where John Lovitz is doing a scene with Cuba Gooding Jnr: Lovitz seems to ad-lib, innocently saying "show me the money" (a couple of times, I think) - and it takes Cuba a moment to realize he's being fed that hackneyed Jerry Maguire line.

True, I do know the line, and the film. But I didnt REALLY think it slotted into the whole courtroom scene.
Didnt really explain myself very well originally did I.

So yes, I know the Jerry Maguire quote is famous, but IMHO it didnt fit the sketch.

A good twist on the end of this sketch would be some REALLY random catchphrase from an actor at the end....

IE

Judge: I sentence you to a 2 years suspended sentence.

Unknown in gallery: I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

Judge: ORDER ORDER, Remove that man for wrong quotation, this is FILM priacy trial!
<cut to the back of a old man in a flat cap being lead away>

Then it could be a running sketch......
Just my t'punce worth

As the others said there is definitely a good idea here. I think it needs to be structured more. As it stands you can clearly see the set up and there is a bit of a stretch for the catchphrase to fit into the script. It would also be funnier it you are not expecting the catchphrase.

Maybe if the Judge names 4 or 5 different movies and then his reply is a catchphrase from 1 of these movies at least the reader is left guessing as to what he is going to say.

Cheers for the comments people. I agree the idea is funnier than the sketch, but I really am rubbish at writing sketches. I thought I'd write this one as it occurred to me in work when I was encouraged to download Highlander, and I thought "wouldn't it be typical if I got prosecuted for downloading something that bad". I think the punchline catchphrase works though, the point is he's getting fined, so I think it fits in well. As for it being similar to that other sketch, I don't think it is. The supposed funny in this sketch (admittedly not well examined here) is that the judge is using catchphrases against the defendant who downloaded the said movies illegally, it's ironic. I'm sure it's an idea that's been done before, but I don't see it in that sketch, sorry. I may re-write it if I can be arsed at some stage, many thanks again.
