The Marriage Ref

It has a big name behind it, and some big names committed to being on it. I just don't think that Seinfeld is all that funny any more, and I am not sure how this kind of panel show will go over. celebrities judging real life married couples?

I thought this show was terrible. The intro, with Seinfeld giving the story of the show's conception, is enough to keep me from watching a second episode. The two "real life disputes" on this episode were both boring and contrived. Taxidermy is for freaks, everyone knows this, but they didn't drill the guy for being borderline psycho. The second disagreement was over having a stripper pole in the bedroom; I don't think my mind could even comprehend jokes as it tried to block-out any image of the lady in question using the stripper pole.

I though that last night's episode was the premier, was it on last week also? I agree with everything you write (I also doubted if they were real married couples or actors).

I watched it last night (what I thought was the premier) and I though it was a load of tosh.

I didn't think that Tina Fey was funny, she actually seemed really uncomfortable. I also thought Eva Longoria was also unfunny and I wish she hadn't tried to be funny.

Seinfeld was better than I expected. Ever since the Microsoft advert I have thought less of him, but he had some good one-liners. I just wish he would do something funny for a change.

All I know about this is Seinfeld presents, Larry Davis, Ricky Gervais and Madonna were on it, that's enough for me, I will be watching!

So far 2 episodes have aired. The premiere was during the Olympics and actually cut into the end of the festivities. It's gained even more notoriety for being badly reviewed.

You know, I can't really think of any real panel shows that have been successful in America or even unsuccessful. Who's Line is it Anyway was decent but it was not really a panel show (or at least what I would consider a real panel show).

It seems like most panel shows in America are game shows. Hollywood squares and Match Game come to mind. But nothing like the panel shows in England.

Bill Maher has a panel show, but there are no quizzes or anything like that. He usually has 4 guests and talks about current events, and it is riotously funny, especially if you aren't a conservative.

I always enjoyed that show when I saw it.
Although it was on very late.

Hasn't he got in trouble from time to time?

Yes he has. He's not afraid to speak his mind on any issue. That's why his newer show is perfectly suited for HBO. No censorship and lots of freedom given.

I haven't seen much of his new show, but I was under the impression that it was more of a talk show.

I remember watching Politically Incorrect quite a bit. The problem is I don't think that Maher is funny at all, extremely vain (which is ironic, considering he is one of the ugliest persons alive), but not funny.

A funny political show is Penn and Teller's Bullshit. They took one of the local state universities here to task for being overly politically correct not long ago.

Same here!
Only swap Madonna for Tina Fey.

Despite my earlier claim, I gave the second episode a shot as it is the regular, hour long format and Tina Fey was on. The "real people" were again the low point and just uninteresting. I think the stars should go to the contestants' houses and snoop around like Come Dine With Me or maybe higher a P.I. to follow them around and get something dirty or embarrassing? just about anything but letting them talk for 5-10 minutes. Tina Fey and Jerry Seinfeld were both underwhelming and I felt like the host was again stiff and annoying. On the up side the Desperate House Wife star had two funny lines.

I will probably tune in for Larry David when he pops up; but I'm prepared to be disappointed.
