Edible, yep! Most of the Agaricus genus is edible, BUT...there are one or two species which are toxic.
I guess you take your choice.
My choice is to leave it in the ground and see what it does.

Yeah, I wouldn't eat it either. Unless there were loads of them. I'd love that. Mushrooms are ridiculously expensive. I buy two large boxes a week because we eat so many of them. It's those portabella mushrooms that annoy me the most. You get about 4 in a box at the same price of a large box. Annoying. why?! Bah.
