British Comedy Guide

Is there a list of UK movie production companies?

Hi.

I'm fairly new to the whole sending movie scripts in part of writing. I know in the USA there is the WGA, where you can register a script as some sort of copyright, is there something similar in the UK as well? Also, is there a list or book you can buy that details production companies or agents etc, willing to look at onsolicited feature length scripts?

Thanks.
Peter.

Two essential books...

The Writers' Handbook
The Writers And Artist's Yearbook

and then there's...

The Screenwriter's Handbook (or is it Bible?)

The Writers' Guild has details of how you can register new scripts if you want to, but you do not need to, and they just want your money. You have copyright already, what you have written belongs to you, unless you have copied it materially from someone else. If you are worried about a reader doing that with your work then just post it to yourself first, although I still don't think this is legal proof of ownership, but then neither are these registration 'scams'. In the end it's down to trust, and how strong your writing is. If it's very strong then any reader, agent or producer will want to promote YOU as the author, not themselves or anyone else.

Are these for/in the UK?

Thanks both for replies!
