Man and Car

Does this work? Just a silly idea I had half-alseep this morning.

EXT. DARK STREET. NIGHT.

A MAN WALKING SLOWLY DOWN A STREET.

A FEW PACES BEHIND HIM, HE CAN SEE A CAR, KERB-CRAWLING, MATCHING HIS PACE EXACTLY.

THE CAR HAS TINTED WINDOWS.

THE MAN TURNS A CORNER. THE CAR CONTINUES TO FOLLOW HIM.

HE STOPS NEXT TO A STREET LAMP. THE CAR STOPS AND WAITS PATIENTLY, THEN CONTINUES TO FOLLOW HIM.

THE MAN TURNS ANOTHER CORNER, THE CAR FOLLOWS HIM.

HE SUDDENLY BREAKS INTO A SPRINT, AND THE CAR SPEEDS UP TO MATCH HIS PACE EXACTLY.

OUT OF BREATH, HE SLOWS DOWN, AS DOES THE CAR.

EXT. SUBURBAN HOUSE. NIGHT.

THE MAN LETS HIMSELF INTO HIS HOUSE.

THE CAR PULLS UP BEHIND HIM IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT.

INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

THE MAN ENTERS, TAKING OFF HIS COAT.

HIS WIFE IS SITTING ON THE COUCH.

WIFE:
Where've you been?

MAN:
Nowhere. Just taking the car for a drive.

END

A pet car is an excellent idea I think. Maybe too few allusions to the domestication of the car for my liking but still nice. I'd develop it further, don't think you're hitting the sweet spot just yet. :)

It's a good sketch, but there was that advert for some car; where the car raced around and acted like a pet dog.

Well remembered Matthew. I'd forgotten about that.

Cheers guys. I thought about making a few ambiguous dog references during the stalking scene, but I didn't want to dilute the punch.

And I don't think I've seen that advert. If it was pre-2009, I would have been overseas anyway.

It wouldn't be the first time I'd accidentally paid homage to a commercial I've never seen: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/14364

Hi
I also like the idea of a pet dog but I agree with the above. We have to believe he's being kerb-crawled/in danger right to the punchline for it to work.

Good idea though. (And I'd forgotten about that advert...)

I like it. The idea is a good one. Just feels like there's something missing that I can't put my finger on.

I realise that is no help whatsoever. Sorry.

Dan
