Ugly Betty Axed In US

Ugly Betty has reportedly been axed. It will finish it's run so that it can be given a proper ending, but might only get 20 episodes instead of the planned 22.

I can't say I'm surprised but did expect it to get to at least 6 seasons before being given the chop. The ratings for it on Channel 4 were dismal lately as well, so maybe it's doing badly globally.

I've never seen it - but remain curious to know whether the actress who was Maggie off Extras is any good in it. I often watched the original Colombian version, Betty La Fea, dubbed into Indonesian. It was abysmal, like most South American telenovas that end up on Asian TV.

I thought the first series had a certain charm, but it ran out of steam pretty quick. I haven't watched it in a while. Just goes to show how fickle the viewing public is. Once this was one of those hot shows trailed up to the hilt, now it creeps out in some dead zone, hardly watched by anybody. Bit like Heroes.

I used to watch Ugly Betty, but there's only so many times the same story line can happen. Something goes wrong, probably Betty's fault, Betty then saves the day and doesn't get fired. Whoop de doo.

To be fair, virtually every show you can think of probably has a set formula that it sticks to, whether it be The Thick Of It, The Sopranos or Little House on the Prairie. Like relationships, shows just have a shelf-life. And once their time's up, their time's up.

Aw, I liked it. It was fun and colourful and cheery.

At least the network have been nice enough to let it finish with a proper ending :) not alot of axed shows get the chance

Yes, that's true.
Wonder what they will do with her for her ending.

I would have her murdered in the second to last episode and have Willie (cant spell her name) and Mark put in frame for it and jailed, nice clean ending.

Or do a american cliche and have her marry Henry and live happily ever after

I think the latter might be more likely!

And quicker, cheaper.

Or they could just make her redundant and she goes home, shuts the door and roll credits.

I watched the first season and lost interest quickly. I can't help but wonder if the big move they made (moving filming from LA to NYC) played a big part in it being axed. It didn't help that they kept moving it around the schedule.

I reckon it was more the schedule to be honest. Is it true that Friday is a bit cursed there? When a show moves to friday it usually ends up axed? I read something about it happening to a few shows over the years.

I think it's a shame, would have liked it to get at least to season 5 or 6, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Suppose Ugly Betty: The Beautiful Movie won't happen anytime soon...No Sex & The City happy ending here.....

Yeah, Friday and Saturday nights are the kiss of death in terms of TV viewing. Quirky shows tend to burn out quickly here.

That's odd compared to over here when the weekends can be the busiest in terms of TV. Suppose everywhere's different.

It's fizzled out over here as well a fair bit. It was getting around 600,000 viewers compared to around 2-3 million when it was first on, so a huge nose - dive
