My Mac Mini had an unexpected reboot and mounted it at the wrong mount point.

Heh heh heh.

Do you not backup to DVD?

David Cameron swearing so he could be down with the kids. Twat.

I'm not entirely sure that was so that he could "be down with the kids". How many kids listen to Absolute Radio?

He knew it would be picked up by the national media.

A really big twat if that was his aim because they can't vote.

Do you not backup to DVD?

The data was lost due to my error, not the operating system's. Unlike several experiences I've had with Windows in the past ...

I have well over a thousand DVDs as it is. Besides being horribly inconvenient to store, I recently read that something like 50% of recordable DVDs will become unreadable after 10 or 20 years. I've recently switched to hard drive storage because it's cheaper, faster and more reliable than DVD, but I'm getting to the point that backing everything up will cost thousands of dollars and I may just let it all go.

I never like backing up to DVD Sick I can't wait until I've replaced all my DVDs and won't have to deal with them again (or as little as possible, anyway).

No cheaper in my experience. Perhaps that just highlights the differnt prices in the UK. Perhaps the deletion wasn't the OS, but it was due to that that you got into that situation.

I've never had Windows delete any of my files, or give me any of the problems you seem to complain about. I've no idea what all of you lot do with your machines.

I put all my TV recordings on DVD. So very easy to delete files from a hard drive, but if you have a hard backup, you're pretty safe.

You literally are the only person I have ever, ever, ever heard of that has never had a problem with Windows.

I don't have the storage or want for piles of DVDs. I'm perfectly happy to loose something and the re download/borrow/rerecord. But then again, my collection would be nothing compared to you empire of discs.

The woman I am working with. She is a cock.

Well, if you will associate with computer ignoramuses... ;)

Heheh. You really have no idea. Cool

1.5 TB hard drive: $120
Dual-layer DVD-R: $1.25 each

Hard drives are half the price of dual-layer discs and then there's the extra time it takes to burn all that data and the massive amounts of storage space required. Single-layer discs are cheaper, but you double the physical storage space requirements and you have to use lossy compression to fit a typical DVD onto a single-layer disc.

Beyond certain versions (ie everything since Windows '98) being on occasion a frustrating pain in the arse, no. The secret is to only let Windows do as little as possible.
