What happened? 
Oh, I'm in a quite important role in the company, yet I have no training. Everything I do, is off the back of my common sense and online research. I need training. I'm being denied it though cause of cost factor.
Eeek! Seems silly of them, seeing as you'd probably do a better job for them if trained, though that is by no means to suggest you're crap now. 
I'm not crap, but the chances of me making a greater mistake is high. I have good common sense, but that's about as good as it gets.
