Quote: Raymond Terrific @ 22nd March 2014, 12:47 PM GMTEven in soaps like East Enders, to me, I think the cast are generally still slightly more attractive than the average people you see walking around the street.
And this is the mind set I'm rallying against. It's difficult to look at it objectively and without bias. Most of you have been raised on a British television culture that celebrates the grotesque and shuns the beautiful.
You are siding with someone who complains that there are too many attractive people on US television shows. You think this is a rational argument. I think you're all mad.
When you think the cast of EastEnders is more attractive then the average person in the street, you know you have a problem. I could go into any bar or club near me and instantly pick out 20 people more attractive then the cast of Eastenders. Hell, go to Beverly Hills or Copacabana Beach and you'll see examples of physical beauty from the people walking around the street that put the Hollyoaks stars to shame.

Not trolling this time, just offering a different perspective to paulted's complaint.

I'm not saying US TV has "too many" attractive people on TV, just an unrealistic proportion. It's not a complaint (from me anyway), just an observation.
And EastEnders isn't set in a club, or Beverly Hills, or Copacabana Beach. Go into the street and see the people sat waiting for the bus, or doing their shopping. Most people aren't attractive. You'll see the same thing walking around normal, everyday places in the US too. I remember an episode of Screenwipe when Brooker showed a sample of Americans a clip of Eastenders, and they were actually impressed with how realistic and normal the cast were.
But I did say that if you prefer to watch shows with an unrealistic proportion of attractive people, there's nothing wrong with that IMO. All TV shows have an element of fantasy or exaggeration, having a cast that is easy on the eye makes sense a lot of the time.
I find many of the characters of EastEnders sexually arousing.

Beaky fancies Ian Beale.
Who doesn't.
Wow! Hope a daughter of Renegade Carpark never comes home crying that someone has said that she's ugly. The reply will probably be "Yeah you are! Why couldn't you be born beautiful?"
Ding! Ding! Ding! Next round...

"Because you're my dad"

She could always get a job on Eastenders.

If she was a total uggo, I'd be her dad, but probably not her father.

Hackney, one of the boroughs that EastEnders is based upon, has changed a lot lately. Every time I pop into Sainsbury of an evening, you can see dozens of attractive, young hipsters buying their vegetarian dinners. So I refute your 'better looking then the average people on the street'.
Whereas we're all still ugly in Lewisham...
Ugly, but armed. So you probably don't want to call us ugly to our faces.
Lewisham eh, used to live in Newcross lovely part of the world.
Yeah, RC you still seem to be cherry picking outliers to prove your point. The average person in East London ain't pretty.
