Things that piss you off Page 1,080

I'm a massive

We all agree with that.

Interesting to note how much of 2000AD has influenced our lives. I regularly hear Manchester get called megacity, sugar is treated like a class A drug, and flubber is available over the counter.

I've just bought a new phone. Until last week, I was still using a Samsung G600...nice little slide phone with real working buttons! However, I do need to use the internet when traveling and can't keep lugging a laptop everywhere, so bought a Samsung Europa...just about enough proper buttons to keep me happy. It's an older android OS, but it does everything my boyfriend's phone does. Hey...I can even ring people on it. I've got pay as you go.

Yes...when people ring me, I have to answer to tell them I'll ring them back. Otherwise, they keep ringing and ringing and ringing! Then, when I eventually answer I find out they're just about to phone the police, hospital, fire service etc. to see if I've been spotted by any of them! Sometimes, all this phone business really invades a person's privacy. If you've got a phone...you're, apparently, available to speak to anyone, anywhere, anytime. One word to say to that...NO!

That's fine if you offer to call back.

New thing pissing me off- the price of already expensive gluten free bread going up.

It's a first world, fat lass problem, but Pizza Hut's improved stuffed crust is f**king disgusting.

Hehe. Don't think I've ever had that.

Is it possible to make gluten free bread yourself? Would be a massive hassle probably, but presumably cheaper(?)
I know nothing about making bread.

You can buy pre mixes that you cook in the oven but the bread comes out even smaller than pre made ones. I could buy a bread maker but it's still hard to but it can still be small or very doughy. Also by the time you buy yeast and eggs to add to mixtures it's not really that much cheaper.

Ah, bummer.

My friend's husband is a coeliac and he gets food on prescription. He pays a flat rate fee per year and gets, among other things, pizza bases etc. She makes him bread, but it breaks up and is a bit crumbly. She did used to use a bread-maker and was fairly happy with that. I think she has to use cornflour for everything. Supermarkets are making more and more gluten-free products, but as with the vegetarian ranges, they will probably be more expensive until everyone's doing it...then the prices will come down. Bread-makers are really easy to use by the way. I've got one and it does a job, ya know?

...and now I'm wondering what it was like before!

I've baked gluten free bread, and can confirm it's quite an involved business. And once you've put in all those eggs and oil, it ends up too much like cake.

We don't have the prescription system here. Even with a bread maker that makes decent normal bread, it doesn't mean that gluten free will turn out the same. Unfortunetly gluten is rather an important ingredient in bread and there just isn't replacement that works the same.

TTPYO: dental and doctors surgeries that are on a lunch break from 11am to 2pm. A 3 hour lunch break?! What are you eating?!

Maybe they think they are in Spain?

I wouldn't mind it so much if they were open early or late, but they are open 8:30am-5:30pm. Bastards. They knew I wanted to sleep in today so they intentionally took a massive lunch break just to mess with me.

EDIT: Gave up on them and decided to register with a new dentist. Amazingly, they have appointments available tomorrow. That's an NHS dentist with appointments available the day after I ring up. Amazing! When I was living in Surrey I had to wait 3 months for an appointment! My last dentist I couldn't get an appointment within 3 weeks of calling up. AND they have loads of good comments on NHS choices. I'm amazed.

Yes...my orthodontist gave me an appointment at ONE the other week and rolled in from lunch at about twenty past! SHE made the appointment herself!

Her excuse...and get this..."Well, I should eat".

Yes you should, but not when I'm paying you shit loads to put my gob right!
Plus, she's gone on holiday now! The wires on my braces have worked their way out of position and all the stand-in nurse could do was get a pair of pliers and bend the wire back so it couldn't go back the other way! Hello!! It's the other way it's just come from...where it's supposed to be! OH OH OH!

I've got pliers here...I could have done that!

Ugh...now I'm moaning again. I was doing really well today.

Reminds me I really should go to a dentist, I haven't been for...it's so long I can't remember. Somewhere between 8-10 years. I really don't have an excuse anymore as there at least 2 within 500m of my flat.
