Interesting stuff! I thought it might be an elaborate hoax but it appears to be real. I suspect the author is right that Ben Elton did know about it but they agreed back then not to ever talk about it.

To be fair, I don't mind the warning,what I do object to is the removal of so called "offensive" content.
To me it's Orwellian that you have BBC worker drones making arbitrary and unaccountable decisions about what to remove.
Or if we are to truly believe in the power of the market,give us the option to have it complete and not butchered by the virtue signalling peons at least on dvd.

The trouble is, the people making these decisions actively believe against the power of the market, and against the rights and abilities of the individual to choose and watch and judge. That is why the cuts are being made in the first place: they believe they are a higher order and have some kind of responsibility to censor and wipe in order to 'protect' the little people, either from some imagined hurt or from ideas to which our poor brains are unaccustomed.
It's essentially the same idea that women shouldn't be enfranchised because their minds are not capable of comprehending serious issues.
I'm glad I bought my DVD sets many years ago, before "this" all started.
