Baumski That's no problem I have got a few backup writers intrested who we can draft in. I would like you to remain an active member in the development though if thats ok with you?
The Sitcom Project: Devil's Blurb Page 2
No probs.
Sorry to cut in here, but having just skimmed this thread, are you planning to write 6 complete episodes? Or one complete ep and an overview of 5 additional ep's?
I'm not quite sure from reading this, but if you are going down the route of writing 6 complete ep's I wouldn't bother, nobody will read all 6, write one cracking ep and 5 great plots.
Apologies if this is what you're doing - just didn't want you all to waste lots of time!
no your input is very welcome. Plans have been made writing six only episode 1 and 6 intially the rest are penned to be overviews. We havent got that far into it yet my plans are literally get the planning stage complete first then move on.
...on side note how do you think it's being organised any tips?
I honestly wouldn't bother writing the last ep. What's your logic for doing that? You can give an overview of how the series ends in the treatment if you want to show the overall story arc for the series.
Commissioners/industry people want to read one script. It's enough to get them read one, let alone two! Much better to spend your time writing a cracking episode. That would be my single bit of advice at this point, focus all your efforts on one script.
As to the structure of and process of team writing, that's a whole different ball game. If I get chance I'll throw some thoughts down.
Awesome Thanks man, I will take your advise on board.
because I'm impatient I'm going to get started on throwing ideas in for this project
The Plot
I think it should run like this; the character is assigned someone who has a short time left to live, they then have to get them to sign away their soul before they die.
The Place
On the way home from work today I thought, hey these guys are meant to be working to collect souls for the devil or god surely there would be hellish creatures or Godly types walking around the office chatting over the water fountain I imagined it a bit like men in black humans and paranormal creatures all thrown into the mix together.
Characters
Main
A newly dead woman, drafted in to the office after Henry was transfered to biscuit toppings. She's naive and very confused about the wrold she's been thrown into
Dev Elson
Has worked in the soul collecting business for 5 years since he was killed in a freak accident with a letter tidy. He is fed up with the job and regularly tries to save the people he is meant to be converting.
Clark
The oldest and most cynical of the group remembers when they use to have to beat the people into signing, is working for the retirement plan which is only 3000 years away
Kurt
Feisty and Young Kurt loves his job and constantly jokes around making light of any situation. Kurt has a thing for the new girl but is unable to emote his feeling into anything other then pranks...
Ok guys what do you think? Rip it apart as it were
I think it all sounds so cool. Do we need to discuss victim's characters too. I dont know wether you want a few each epo or 1 main so the audience can relate to them more. We may also need an explanation for how each major character ended up working for the Devil. Ie maybe Dev was a big business guy or a top notch lawyer. I am sure that if there is a heaven * hell all lawyers and agents end up downstairs lol.
Also you could maybe have a few (Heavenly Councelors) who have the right to councel peeps before they sign. Although God & the Devil are enemies they must also have to work together sometimes, well i would presume anyhoo.
It's up to you all. Its just a thought.
I think it'd be nice for the main girl to get there by something really small like accepting a cookie from a demon "girl guide" and as we know if you eat food from hell you get confined there...little clever work aorunds would be quite nice
This reminds me of the brilliant film Little Nicky actually.
HI Martin, I'm not really sure if it is that similar to Little Nicky mate if I remember correctly wasnt that about the Devil's son? maybe I'm being ignorant but I dont really see it really clashing with that if anything I'd be concerned about it being to M.I.B
MIB was about alien worlds wasn't it so we should be ok there. Also little Nicky was very different I think from what I recall. As far as I know this is all completly new. Devil workers collecting souls from a modern day office. My only worry is the religious. They might have us all burned at the stake. Also how are we to set this out. Eg. Will the main character be talking us through it, a bit like LOM or is it to be more of a story sitcom. Once we know all the info we are half way there. I have no worries how it's done I am just a very nosey cow.
Unless this show is about protecting the world from the scum of the universe, I think we'll be all right. MIB was more focused on aliens than the Devil.
I wouldnt worry about the religious lot we mentioned Devil in title we're alread heathens lol...
I was thinking of something like
- Recieve the nearly dead persons file
- Meet the "nearly Dead"
- The soul collector introduced to their life
- Soul collector influences their actions good/bad
- Meet the other team trying to convert the nearly dead.
- Get/ or dont get the soul
- Person Dies
-End
I thought it'd be good to have it a bit quantum leap were the soul collectors can come back the world of the living as any thing.. for example "cat" to make their job that much more difficult
Excellent idea Quantum Leap style. I like that.
PS, by nearly dead do you mean a few years. Normaly peeps would sell there soul for money or fame or love. They dont need to know they are nearly dead tho I presume. Or are we going completly modern and they can sell their souls for everlasting life or something even different?
