British Comedy Guide

How do you let people know about new comedy?

Has anyone got any thoughts/recommendations on how best to let people (particularly on line community) know about a great new comedy?

Beyond the Pole, starring Stephen Mangan, Rhys Thomas, Alexander Skarsgard and Helen Baxendale is funny and moving etcetc, has had great reviews, and has just secured a small nationwide cinema release starting on 12th Feb at the ICA with a launch at the Glasgow Film Festival on the 21st Feb at the GFT.

But there's no UK Film Council or BBC funds behind this one. BTP has £0 marketing budget!!!

A true indie that could disappear very, very, easily and deserves better.

So, how best do you do it? Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

It's a pity none of your stars are prolific Twitter users, really. That usually seems pretty reliable for getting the word out about this kind of thing.

Yes, Twitter.

And not annoying me by posting in 100% incorrect forums. :)

im working on the twitter - any other comedy forums/websites people use or refer to? Any amazing comedy campaigns people really liked?

Isn't Skarsgard some kind of vampire pin-up tabloid fodder hunk at the moment? I would have thought it would sell itself.

As for comedy, a better approach to cynical comedy bastards such as the ones frequenting this forum would have been to come in cowered, trembling, and humbly offer your film up for criticism before retreating in the style of a Japanese sake waitress.

And maybe rein in the exclamation marks. They're a warning sign.

;)

(All that said, I'd watch this film. I liked Fly Fishing, and the trailer did make me laugh twice)

Skarsgard is in True Blood. What's Flyfishing?

Fly Fishing was Williams' last picture as far as I know.

I had an e-mail this morning inviting me to the press preview of Beyond The Pole next week. It does actually look quite interesting, but not at that time of the morning. Buggering hell.

Obviously having seen it I'm biased but whatever time it's on I'd say get down there. Honestly I havent seen any Brit indie that comes close for a long long time.
