Very nice, but would expect nothing less.
Shoot the Writers - Slaggs' semi-final sketches Page 2
Thanks for all the comments. Appreciated. It's kinda surprising that (what I consider to be) the runt of the litter had a few mentions too.

You're lucky. As the writers, these monstrosities are permanently etched into the Slaggies' minds. That is, what little is left of those two grey organs.

It's mine too. Tom Bennett did a great job of looking really pissed off just before the reveal. Although I'm really fond of the audience gasps in 'Size 16' when Tom Bennett utters the punchline. The second sweary line though, imo, added nothing to the punch and was inserted without our knowing.

Agreed re: Time and Place. It was one of the first we'd ever written and I was already embarrassed by it, by the time it aired. If I was shooting it (and as it was written down in the original script) I'd have been close in on the bearer and the widow from the beginning to show only their faces, and then show that he was actually bearing the coffin. But even then, it'd just be gilded rather than saving a sketch that should've been drown at birth.
I've never seen the time and place one before and it made me laugh out loud
All good stuff Slagg A. I'd agree about the second sweary line in Size 16 but the 'fat bitch' line made me laugh out loud. I too, had never seen the time and the place and so thought it was funny. Think your direction would have worked better though.

Well, maybe not drowned at birth!
The close up shot would have done a lot more for it in my opinion, would have set up the pubchline up an awful lot better.
Nice sketches.
Quick & punchy.
I vaguely remember shoot the writers at the time.
I thought it was a brilliant idea for a show although it seemed to get a bit slated from what I've seen on here.
But the sketches probably weren't all of this quality.
Cheers, Steve, appreciated.
Yep, STW was very patchy but I'm totally grateful to the way the company interpreted and presented our scribblings.
As to the short and punchy. It was kind of a deliberate choice on our behalf. We'd seen the first series and some of the sketches seemed too long-winded so we thought it best to hit the audience quick and get out asap. Ours were the shortest set of sketches in the whole of the second series.
We still think that way, only a few of our sketches ever pass a minute.
