It seems weirdly cruel to grow a potato in a pot. I prefer them free range, as nature intended.
It has to be a very deep pot, plus it's safer from slugs.

What the hell has any of this have to do with Festivus? Where's the airing of grievances and feats of strength? If I wanted hear a bunch of blokes yammering about vegetables I'd go the 'What vegetable are you planting?' thread!

Best to have room to earth-up the emerging plant, which promotes more tubers. A pile of tyres can be used, adding more tyres as the plant grows. I don't like growing them in the ground, you have to hunt around too much when you dig them up. At least you know where they are in a pot.
