Clinton pardoned some right rum felons.
Imagine if Gordon Frown was allowed to pardon people.

Quote: DaButt @ December 22 2009, 6:04 PM GMTYou just have to ask the president for a pardon, but it's typically done by a politician. Most people have already served their full sentence, so the pardon just removes the consequences of the conviction, such as the loss of the right to vote or possess firearms.
Sometimes the president will pardon a staff member or government employee who "took one for the team" after being caught doing something naughty in service to the president and/or the nation.
Like Oli North?
I know about him because of American Dad TV makes me learn good!

All charges against him were dropped by the court; he didn't receive a presidential pardon.
Nixon, of course, did.

Ah, I thought he ended up taking most of the rap for it though, even thought he was "Innocent".
As with the last two elections, I shall not be voting. Don't support any of the parties.
Then form your own party.

He was tried and convicted on a couple of charges, but the convictions were overturned.
I met him once. Nice guy.

He was a bit of a patsy but, come on, he was guilty as hell! The whole Contras thing would have been far more of a big deal if it hadn't been basically consistent with CIA foreign policy for so many years. If North had gone down then George Bush Sr and other CIA chaps (going right back to the Bay of Pigs) would have faced some awkward questions.
I can't believe the election is only about 8 weeks away. I kind of hope we get a hung parliament. It'd be quite interesting, not least if the Lib Dems became king makers.

Does that make you a Communist or a Fascist?

Interesting, but also genuinely scary.
Difficult to see anything about the Lib Dems that makes them more scary than the other two parties, both of which are absolutely hopeless. And a hung Parliament has the advantage that it will probably stop the politicians from actually being able to do anything, which can only be a good thing.

I think it's scarier when a party gets a huge majority, such as the Tories in 83 and 87, or Labour in 97 or 01. That's when the bad legislation gets pushed through, unchecked.

Very true. Very true indeed.

They'd be sooner to take us further into a federal EU than the others. That's scary enough for me.
