That was cancelling Dr. Who. But almost. They cancelled the chart show as well which cost nothing to make - it was presented by an computer.

The glitter and tinsel side of music seems unimportant to people now, strangely. What Duran Duran wore on TOTP was as important as their music back in the day.

When I was little, TOTP had proper pervy cameramen, they were always filming the teenage girls dancing and would try to get some upskirt shots of whichever pop minstrel was miming away on set.

Then it all went a bit rubbish, even when Kylie Minogue would show up wearing a couple of bits of dental floss as an outfit, the cameramen seemed to concentrate exclusively on her face. Of course, this went completely the other way whenever boy bands appeared, then the gay studio director was all about the six packs and trouser bulges.

If TOTP does come back, at least it will keep Fearne Cotton off the streets.

I remember them going equally bonkers on Later With Jools Holland; then, after the singer had been rolling about screaming and smashing his guitar, cutting to a bemused Jools sitting with Lou Reed, who seemed to have appreciated the rock and roll effort.

TV is actually just an amplified peeping tom's eye. It ridiculous to assume that most of the audience isn't sitting there wanking. Where do they get their pretensions from?

And I liked the Chart Show too, ah, 80s/90s TV was ace. And shit.

Yup. But not all and every kind of music. That would be mental. I don't like all cheeses either.

They should bring back The White Room, I remember that as being a really good music show. Apart from the time Iggy Pop performed in see through trousers and no underwear.

Should I force myself to enjoy 'world music' or whatever the right term should be? Is it politically incorrect no to? I'm a music racist. They come over here, with their weird instruments that you can't even pronounce the name of, and take the 'Later' slots that could go to our fine homegrown bands!

You shouldn't force yourself to do anything you don't want to Matt (regardless of what Ben and Dave say), but music is generally considered to be cross-cultural - it doesn't generally matter whether it's from South America or South Africa (or South Cheshire). With a few exceptions Jules Holland has great musicians on his show. I would imagine most music lovers tune in in the hope that they will hear something new.

From now on in my mind you will always be the man who likes Gavin & Stacey but hates Fela Kuti.

I agree with zooo.

I don't want to watch programmes featuring music I like. I want to watch a programme featuring music that people like most this week. Even if I don't like it.
