Scientists

INT. A SCIENCE LAB. TWO MEN IN WHITE COATS STAND BEFORE AN ARRAY OF COMPUTERS, DISPLAY SCREENS, BLINKING LIGHTS, BUTTONS AND SWITCHES BESIDE A LARGE DOOR.

MAN 1:
Let's take this slowly. One wrong input, or switch out of place, and it won't work.

MAN 2:
Ok. Ready?

MAN 1:
Ready.

MAN 2:
Enter mainframe pass code.

MAN 1:
Entering mainframe pass code.

MAN 2:
Select switch, alpha two nine nine, sub section aitch four.

MAN1:
...Section aitch four. Done.

MAN 2:
Align particle beams.

MAN 1:
Particle beams check!

MAN 2:
Set resonator.

SFX. LOUD HUM.

MAN 2:
Nice. Right that's it.

THE TWO MEN LOOK AT EACH OTHER THEN AT A SMALL RED BUTTON ON THE WALL

MAN 1:
OK, Here goes.

TREMBLING, HE PUSHES THE BUTTON.

SFX. DOORBELL.

THE DOOR OPENS AND A MAN POKES HIS HEAD ROUND THE DOOR.

MAN 3:
You're late. Come on the film's about to start.

MAN 1 AND MAN 2 RUSH THROUGH THE DOOR.

END.

I like the underlying idea Scratchyr but I feel that they could be doing something other than ringing a doorbell, possibly something that actually requires a number of procedures. Maybe the shot could start on their faces and they reel off the procedures they are carrying out on a computer and it turns out they are just putting a really camp track on, the shot pulls back and lots of scientists are having a party. I don't know, my idea isn't great but I think you could move the idea in to a better situation/setting/scenario.
:)

How about "We really should get Paypal" ?

Uhm, dunno. I feel it needs to end on a high, a surprising/shocking punch/reveal because you can see that the likelihood is they're doing something 'everyday' so you need to break expectation.
:)

See what you mean. Cheers Giggle-o. :)

Maybe there's a bing! and a small door pops open to reveal a steaming microwave meal or summmingk.

EDIT: Probably been done before mind.

I've had a few thoughts on a better (or not) ending.

1. Vending machine.
2. Lottery number generator.
3. Turning on the Christmas lights.
4. TV remote control.
5. Putting on some music (Giggle-o)
6. Microwave (Kevin)
7. Reveal a business man waiting for his train ticket behind a plastic window.

Any thoughts of welcome.

I vote, erm, er, number 5, yeah, that's the best. ;)
I think, like Kevin said, this might have been done before, not sure. But if you come up with a new/interesting angle I don't see why it couldn't work.

Toaster?

In the old days, it would be a VCR. What's difficult to program nowadays? iPhones?

Liking the toaster, Maybe with a dramatic countdown?

The toaster makes for nice ending with the toast popping.

To me it would work as the appliance is the most simple thing in the world...well apart from toasting over an open fire.

I think the "dodgy Jukeox selection" idea is a good one. A Scientists' Convention or something. Christmas lights also a cracker - excuse the pun - which could end with the lights in question being visible from space or something.

Sky Plus is a possibility for programming difficulties, maybe? Or those self-service tills in supermarkets.

Toaster is good too.

I'd go with Christmas tree lights.

How about typing the euros sign on a keyboard?
