Top Gear - Series 14 (Autumn/Winter 2009) Page 3

Tim, I hear what you are saying, but, you know what, I completely disagree with you.

You claim that the average Top Gear viewer is neither gullible or eager to please. In which case, you are suggesting that the average TG viewer is complicit in Clarkson's homophobic and xenephobic mantra. Honestly, I don't believe that for a second. I think the majority of them are Mail and Express readers, dutifully lapping up the garbage spouted by their leader.

Clarkson's homophobic and xenephobic mantra.

I must have missed this. When has Clarkson spouted this "mantra"?

Um, everytime he opens his mouth? Even the most cursory knowledge of this cretin indicates his views on gay and/or foreign people.

Come on, do the research on him if you don't know.

No, I think I've read a lot of his journalism, heard him interviewed frequently and watched a fair bit of him on TV. I've never seen anything of that nature. If I had I wouldn't be making any effort to defend him or to question your statement.

You're making the accusation, Jim, the onus is on you to prove your case. (You must know this, being legally educated?)

Alas it's true, Tim.
Here he is defending the coast from imigrants whilst at the same time forcing gayers to think twice.

Laughing out loud

*Baywatch theme*

I'm pretty sure everyone knows they're exaggerated comedy caricatures of themselves. Most Top Gear viewers enjoy comedy, as that's what it is. I know somebody who's really into his cars, who doesn't watch it as it's nothing to do with cars.

I suppose they should perhaps be more careful, if people are a bit stupid then, as when Little Britain got really popular, the idiots thought it funny to be racist/homophobic/fatist as their irony genes were missing.

Top Gear succeeds not only because of the obvious love that the presenters (notably Mr Clarkson) put into their show, but also because of the superb production values. When they go out and film something the footage is immaculate. The money is up there on screen where it matters. It becomes more than a show about cars. It's a treat just for those who enjoy spectacular photography as well. :)

This.

As for gullible viewers lapping up any old crap - they are more then catered for with the constant big budget programming about karaoke singing, old people dancing and celeb whores in a house figthing over corn flakes.

As far as I'm aware Top Gear is the only show on the BBC which has an opinion / viewpoint totally opposite to the standard (and heavily nutured) party line. It also makes the jokes entirely tongue in cheek, with knowing nods to camera and sitcom style set ups. You don't even have to be a lawyer to figure out the humour - alledgedly.

Also, seeing them in "the flesh" (not as in the flesh as the picture above) you really see, they appreciate it's all in good fun, and for entertainment. It's the best show on the TV at the moment, they know it, we know it, and just leave it as that!

Did Hammond look even tinier in real life?
Since the camera adds ten pounds and all that.

This is genuinely fairly interesting; every single person that I know would be of the opinion that there is no irony whatsoever either in:

1) The presenter's delivery & content.
2) The crowd's response and appreciation of said material.

Consider this: what would Stewart Lee think of Top Gear and it's presenters & audience?

Tick Tock...

Yep, exactly.

Having read all the other stuff Clarkson has written (column pieces, books I love the racist, deluded old wind bag) I think he is entirely sincere. Doesn't stop him being funny or entertaining. I just wonder if he suggested killing all baldies and gingers, if the streets would be knee deep in corpses the next day.

As for Hammond and the long haired shemale they exist entirely in his mighty shadow. If he told them to f**k each other in a Reliant Robin they would.

Sounds like a strange bunch of people you associate with.

And this is relevant because...?
