Did anyone else enter this comp on the Beeb writers room?
It's closed now but I entered and they don't even acknowledge your entry by email and now there's no ref to it on the web
Barebones Comp
The Writers Room doesn't actually exist.
It's just a small cupboard with a letterbox behind which sits a shredder.

yes, I'm just beginning to realise
Surely it would be more accurate if it were called 'The Readersroom'? Then again, maybe not...
whatever, they're pig ignorant
Think about every script produced and broadcast by the BBC since the Writers' Room was created.
How many of those scripts ever went anywhere near the Writers' Room?
Not many, I assure you.
If the writers' room ceased to exist, a lot of cushy jobs would cease to exist. Yes, it gives lots of 'feedback' but you can get that here - instantly - and from people who are actually passionate about comedy; passionate to a fault I might add - like Roodeye.
You're so right, Morrace.
The snag is that honest critiquing is so often the road to perdition and who would travel that road?
It's flattery and hypocrisy that pave the path to popularity and power.
The writersoom are great. Lots of talented people have been picked up by them and gone on to to write for television. It's not their fault that they are not programme makers and so can only do so much to help. Sorry to hear something went awry with your script BB, doesn't sound good that you can't get information, have you tried giving them a call? Or posting a question on their forums on the site.

No but it only closed on the 14th It's me being impatient but I thought there'd at least be a reference to the comp, sort of...this is closed now but watch for the winners names etc.
Barebones is the company that will judge the entries but they didn't even email to acknowledge receipt

The person whose work is critiqued with flattery and hypocrisy is losing out though, because they gain nothing than perhaps a false idea of their work. Those who receive feedback without are ultimately getting the better deal.

So it only closed four days ago Tsk. Tsk.
Sounds like it's Barebones who didn't acknowledge receipt then, not the Writersroom. Fingers crossed for you.
The Writers Room comprises a small handful of BBC employees and a dozen or so freelance readers who get together every few weeks to sift through some of the 10,000 scripts that arrive at the Writers Room every year.
I've no doubt those people are dedicated and competent but they are working against a never-ending avalanche of submissions. Accordingly, at least 8000 of those scripts will be returned without feedback and an exceedingly - and I mean exceedingly - small fraction of those scripts and writers will make it through to production.
That's not because the Writers Room is crap: it's not because the scripts are crap; it's because of the numbers. Compare the number of hours alloted by the BBC to new drama and new comedy each week, then look at the mountain of scripts submitted.
I joke about shagging a producer or a TV executive but, believe me, it works a lot better than sending stuff to the Writers Room.
