Worth noting that Graham Fellows (aka John Shuttleworth) starred as a nightclub manager in an episode of Coogan's Run.

IMO Jilted John was his finest hr

Yes. Davison played Brian - responsible and studious. Steve (younger bro) was lazy and irresponsble - tending to drag Brian down a bit. Sonia was Brian's gf and was very 'green and eviro, concsious' and tried to be encouraging. I thought Davison looked quite different in it as he had black rimmed glasses and longer brown hair. Although he's done other comedy I don't think he's done much other sitcom and he played it in more of an exaggerated sitcom style than his usual calm low key style. I remember Brian always used to lecture Steve saying something like "I worked hard so I could go to university. But what did you do?". It was sort of a catch phrase. Wouldn't it be a pain having a brother saying that to you all the time!

Fair enough. I've only seen a few episodes. Maybe I should give it more of a go.

I though 'Second Thoughts' was good - if you like that kind of low key middle class stuff. Good cast. Mind you I've only ever seen 1st series on DVD as last time looked that was all available. Never seen Faith in the Future (the spin off). What comes to mind is their dog was called 'Deefa' (i.e. D. for Dog).

Only other Davison sitcoms Ive heard of are Holding The Fort amd Aint Misbehavin

Oh, just remembered the Saturday (later Friday) Night Armistice. That was great.

Dan

Oh and Fiddlers Three.

Re the Peter Davison sitcoms :D

I used to like Ain't Misbehavin' when it was on, I was 10 & 11. Not seen it since broadcast and it seems to have been relagated to the bin marked "Never open again"

FILTHY, RICH AND CATFLAP
Anyone remember it?

Yes, this was the very one I was going to mention. Better than Y Ones and Bottom. My fave Ade and Rik piece.

The Ade and Rik content has not fared well over time; watch anything by them now and it is simply not funny.

They repeated Filthy on GOLD or something like that a while back and it looked ok.

What was the other one I think it had rik mayall in it as well a few years ago? only lasted a series

Believe Nothing?

The New Statesman is still top-notch btw, even after all this time; but I take it you meant Rik & Ade together...

Dan

So Haunt Me.

I have every episode of all three shows. YOnes is by far the most tiresome and tedious, then Bottom, then FR&C. But I still get them out annually on my DVD collection rota and watch them all. Ignore the knob gags in Bottom and you have some staggeringly good slapstick going on. Ade and Rik are near the very top for exponents of modern physical humour. The chopped off finger, the Santa Claus hanging, Rik's birthday leg breaks, are wonderful.

I'm in New Zealand and the played FILTHY on a Sky channel we have here called 'UKTV' a couple of years ago. They rerun stuff over and over on UKTV. I never really watched it. I intend to watch the Young Ones some time as I have never seen it all.

Ok, I know some people will hate this one, but I thought it was great 'A FINE ROMANCE'. It was probably very well received at the time but pretty much forgotten now. Very similar to the initial series(pl.) of 'AS TIME GOES BY'. But I think FINE ROMANCE is better myself. When I was a kid I had a record of David Frost pantomime of PUSS IN BOOTS staring Judi Dench as Puss. I played it over and over. My older brother came to hate Judi Dench's voice because of that - and thus couldn't stand Fine Romance because of Dench's voice.

knob gags in Bottom

*snigger*

A Fine Romance is alright, but the humour hasn't really stood the test of time that well. It's a little flat now. IMO.

Loved them.
The Tony Blair doll thingy was ace.

If You See God, Tell Him - one of the best peices of TV I've seen.
