Very funny. Not.

Agreed.

There does seem to be a bit of a gang mentality on here of late. But David, I think your question has been answered pretty comprehensively.

Guys, I am only looking for advice from you as my comedy peers, I do not feel it is neccesary for my wife Dawn or for that matter her friend Sue to become the subject of discussion.

Fair enough IT David. I suggest you post in Critique and be damned.

The best time to post it is at the crack of dawn.

David, if you look at the other threads there is good advice mixed with the flippant. It is a comedy site. Your job is to winnow out the good stuff. I believe you've had all the answers you need, as Badge points out.

In summary:

Dialogue and character are copyright but an idea isn't.

If you ever want it made, then you have to show it to someone. There's always a chance it'll get ripped off. But the alternative is to keep the joke in a safe and never share it.

As to the wife, it was you that mentioned her, so I think people assumed it was relevent to the subject. :P

The regulars are only pulling your leg btw. So don't take it the wrong way. :)

If you're really worried, IT David, perhaps you should post one of your poorer sketches first. You wouldn't want to blow your wad at once.

That dawned on me too.

(Go on Morrace, milk the f**ker!)

I left a message on my brother in law's answer machine and he has just emailed to say he has a window free at half past four tomorrow afternoon so I shall wait to see what he advises.

Does anybody know if producers look at this forum? From what I have been told of the industry I am slightly concerned that if you guys don't steal my ideas then they might.

Gang activity is certainly getting out of hand. Personally, I won't even walk through 'DVDs And Other Merchandise' late at night without carrying a knife and some pepper spray. :(

Don't worry, most comedy producers are far too busy grooming teenagers on Bebo to bother coming here.

I'm definitely going to steal this guy's sketch.

Maybe if we all chipped in a few quid he'd sell us the rights. That way everyone's a winner.

OK - I'm closing this overnight.

David - Some deep breaths. You've had your answer from people of varying experience within the biz. What you do with the advice is your own concern. Personally I'd have waited 'til you could phone the brother-in-law than take your chances with this thieving bunch of gypoes.

Ok - opened again.

IT David, don't take things around here too seriously in future. You'll get good advice but it's the nature of a forum that anyone can and does contribute to a thread - useful or not.

:)

Thank you SlagA. Perhaps my passion for my writing and comedy in general does mean I may take the comments of others too much to heart.

This is my first time on a forum and I understand this involves interactions with types of people I don't normally deal with and so I shall make an effort to lighten up and dare I say it enjoy the contributions of others.

:D Yep, I understand.

So David, out of interes,t what was the advice given by the lawyer?

You''ve told us the names of your wife Dawn and her friend Sue, you might as well tell us your brother-in-law's name.
