Are violent video games damaging to society? Page 2

Play any of the Splinter Cell games for eight hours, then go for a walk on a dark night.

Whenever I did this, I was aware of every motherf**king light source within a hundred foot radius, and I had to fight the urge to take them out.

Never felt the urge to do a Seagal on a security guard's neck though.

Rap music is damaging to society.

I saw some builders and every time they laid a new row of bricks, that line would disappear.

I saw some builders and every time they laid a new row of bricks, that line would disappear.

But then they all got l shaped bricks and they were squashed against the sky, oh the humanity.

wow! what did you used to do there?

I was a 'Technical Author'. Which means I wrote fascinating white papers about things like RenderWare, which nobody read.

Isn't that underwear for Japanese homosexuals?

Ahhhhh that's still quite cool. Did you get to write any fascinating white papers on the game engines? or was it all the graphics side?

What's sadder: that Griff did that job, or that I remember that he did that job?

Watching The Big Question on BBC. This issue came up and they talked nonesense about it. What do you think?

No, I don't think they are. Violent video games are just a scape-goat for violence on the streets. If someone is convicted of a violent act and it gets revealed they played Grand Theft Auto, that will automatically get the blame, yet it may have helped spur them on for the violence, yet if they were prepared to commit street violence in the first place, then it would only be a matter of time before they did, violent video game or no violent video game.
I played Grand Theft Auto 4, I enjoyed it and didn't feel the need to go out and kill somebody with a chainsaw (well maybe with Dad's Army being on, I decided against it)

Thank God for 'Grand Theft Auto', to be honest. Before it came out I could barely walk to the shops without violently maiming several innocent passers-by. Now I can sublimate my most violent rages via the medium of pixels. As a result, the good people of Henleaze Road, Bristol, are rarely attacked on my trips to the post office.

I played pacman, took some ecstasy and bit 3 muslim women wearing Burqas.

:D

I like a bit in one of Charlie Brooker's books where he says "I always felt sorry for Pac Man, endlessly pursued by ghosts... What had he done, f**ked their sisters?".

:D

Personally I believe there is a link sometimes, that in some weak-conscienced individuals the disassociation involved can affect their behaviour. Because we are so used to the fantasy of TV and cinema, we can often view images of real people in suffering and become de-sensitised. The same can be applied to certain indiviuals playing certain games; and it can trigger violent tendancies.

Was that before or after they became the biggest name in the game?
