Mystery Science Theater 3000

I don't know if someone has started a thread on this show, and I apologize if they have. Also, this is my first thread started, and for those who haven't already met me....hello, hi, and hello again :)

MST3K was definitely a niche show. Not everyone likes it. For those who don't know it's a flimsy plot about a guy and some robots on a ship that are tortured by watching bad movies by an evil scientist...yep, it's THAT silly. However, this "plot" is just an excuse to make fun of these horrible movies so you get a silhouette of these guys making fun of movies in a theater, and snarky comedy ensues...pop culture references about...and so forth.

I apologize again if this is well worn territory, and if it's not, to be perfectly frank the show isn't for everyone. There's a reason it was a niche show in the States (aired on Comedy Central from 1989 to 1996, and then on Sci Fi Channel from 1997 to 1999)

heres a clip job of one episode from YouTube

Jeff

Tom Servo, Croooooooooowwwww.

I remember watching them in my teens and laughing my ass off. We were quite drunk though. I wasn't fussed on the inbetween the films bit. But when they talked over the films it was good.

My most favourite film was "The Skydivers" with "The Bride of the Monster" a close second.

The short about a visit to the farm is by far my most favourite anything on the show.

Id have to say my favourites are "The Final Sacrifice", "The Legend of Boggy Creek 2" and "Mitchell"

Some films are so bad making fun of them doesn't entertain...like "Manos: The Hands of Fate"

It's been suggested that I watch this many times. Can anybody tell me very simply what it's about? All I really know is that robots mock things.

Laughing out loud

The show is essentially a vehicle to make fun of very bad movies. The in between sketches are minor fun, but the hilarity comes from them mocking these extremely bad (and by bad...I mean very bad) films. The puppets are rather superfluous but you get used to them.

If you want to see a good introductory show I suggest you look up Space Mutiny on YouTube. It's one of the best.
