That Elena she gets everywhere.

When I first saw her I thought she looked just like a Bond girl. I wouldn't be surprised...

That Elena she gets everywhere.

She'll look funny when she's forty, mind.

I look funny already, so maybe I'll look normal at forty. :)

Or, sadly, maybe we get the TV we deserve. Why bother creating brilliant telly if all people want is Big Brother and X Factor.

The problem is one programme is successful so the other channels jump on the bandwagon and produce their own versions of the same. We just need more variety.

Oh, and Being Human was good too. I didn't expect to like it -- I'm scared of vampires -- but it was cool. It seemed to me knowing and a bit camp without being childish.

Weren't they comedy writers?

It's too early to say.

Besides, I don't think there should be this division between "comedy writer" and "drama writer". There are good writers and bad writers as far as I can tell. No reason a good comedy writer shouldn't/can't write drama. Some of our best comedy writers write far better dramatic moments than a lot of the so-called "drama writers".

If it had been done in America it would have had the full special effects and looked a lot more expensive.

Have you watched Tru Blood?

No. This teen vampire angst bullshit leaves me cold.

It's not at all like that, as far as I've been watching. It's actually really good (much better than I thought it would be). The characterisation is very well done.

It's quite rare for a writer to have a successful career in both drama and comedy. I think they require different sets of skills, and it's unusual for a writer to excel at both. Stephen Moffatt would be one who has.

A good comedy actor can usually do good drama too, it's all down to timing. Having a gift for comedy is that.

Tru Blood isn't anything like what I imagine Twilight must be like, if that's what you're afraid of. At least not in the episodes I've seen so far.

Oh, right. I'm not sure I know the difference, to be honest. Isn't one the TV version of the other or something? I just see pallid pretty boys gurning and tune out (mentally).

AFAIK Twilight has nothing to do with Tru Blood. But no worries. There's plenty of other great TV drama to watch. If you live in America.

Or if you live anywhere else since most if not all is exported. So maybe we don't have to produce our own stuff?

Does anyone else immediately sigh when they see a really good 'comedy' actor turn up in a soap? Like when Craig Charles was in Coronation Street and Nina Wadia and Sanjeev Baskar appeared in Eastenders.

It's like another nail in the coffin of there not being much comedy work out there.

Dan

I imagine the money plays a part there Dan.

I'll leave this open goal for someone else.

Cheers.

Yes, I personally heave a massive sigh when I see a comedy actor such as Sanjeev Baskar turn up in a soap. Or a comedy. Or just on TV in general. I turn over the channel and think to myself, "What a waste! Somewhere there's a regional theatre company missing an pompous, irritating, unfunny git to run the ticket office". Angry
