Brief covering letter enclosed

Heloo Wave

I was looking to send my script to the BBC Writers Room and the FAQ say you have to send a brief covering letter. I had a few questions regarding what they are looking for. Would it be something like below? If not, can you point me in the right direction please?

My name is Yadda Yadda and I've been writing for about 20 minutes. I have enclosed my idea for a new Sitcom, which is called The Ghost of Ivy Tyldesley.

The Ghost of Ivy Tyldesley is set in Curly Watts' old downstairs loo. We follow the ghostly presence of the late Ivy Tyldesley in her quest to seek out anyone who crossed her during her life. When she finds then she haunts them and then brutally kills them, with hilarious consequences! Ivy happily bodges her way through her Paranormal killing spree, until a new family move into the house. The head of the house is Oz (Played by the bloke who used to run OzCabs in Eastenders) and Ivy realises she's fallen head over heels for him. Will this odd couple find love? Or will Oz find himself drawing his last breath and meeting his eternal doom bludgeoned to death in a pool of his own blood?

Is this the kind of thing the Writers Room are after as a covering letter? Also, do you attach this to the front of your Script?

P.S - Obviously, this isn't my real idea for a Sitcom. No. My idea is about The Ghost of Alf Roberts. You know, he used to run the Convenience Store. Yeah you remember him, looks like a cross between Peter Kay and Phil 'The Power' Taylor. You must remember him, used to be married to the woman from Rentaghost. Yeah that's him.

Anyway, I'm giving too much away. I've said too much already. Any advice on the covering letter will be gratefully received.

CMB.

Too late. I finished the first draft of your 'Ghost of Alf Roberts' idea in 20 minutes.

Sue me.

Looks OK to me. I would fine-tune one bit: you aren't sending them your "idea" for a new sitcom, you're sending them a new sitcom. Which is good, because they want scripts, not ideas for scripts.

Also if you have any other writing experience it's worth mentioning that too.

Chicken, if you can do a search before posting it keeps everything a lot tidier.

is an example of an existing thread that deals with the subject. If it doesn't answer your question exactly, just append your query to it.
