Good call for The Thing. Literally eye popping stuff. On a very retro note, Dead of Night is good, especially Michael Redgrave and the ventriloquist dummy. Hello Hugo.

Ooh, I was going to say Dead of Night. Great choice - it's a compendium of stories, some are a bit twee, but the best are genuinely spine-tingling.
I also vote for Night of the Demon. Proper spooky, that.
The Haunting, The Wicker Man, Night of the Living Dead and Rosemary's Baby are all recommended too.

I remember Event Horizon being uncomfortably scary as well as Blair Witch. Silence of the Lambs freaked me out as a kid too.
Event Horizon just seemed to be a mish-mash of other, superior horror films (mostly Alien and Hellraiser with a bit of Star Wars and 2001 thrown in).
Good call on Hitcher sooty. Excellent film.
I'll add the best, for me, in the Evil Dead series: Army Of Darkness (The Medieval Dead). Although it's more comical than horror. Anyone seen Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell?
Yeah I saw Drag me to hell. I loved it, because it was so tense and silly. Don't expect a serious brain teaser. It's just a good ol' horror film.
