I've heard the same story in a radio 4 programme, 'Medical Matters', where they were not trying to sell us anything. According to these impartial nutritionists, we have a problem in the west, in that we are consuming too much omega6 compared to omega3. You are, of course, right to be suspicious of commercial interests in all this: the promotion of margarine as a 'healthy' spread has no basis in fact, since marg tends to have a high omega6 content, thus throwing off our balance. Apparently decades ago, the tests showed that switching to marg did not reduce health risks, but the industry chose to misrepresent the evidence.
