I'm in the minority, but I rather like it when a newsreader/host who should normally be impartial, is so incensed by something that they can't help but show it. I don't really require people to be robotic automatons. I like a bit of passion with my politics now and again.

I liked that too.

Why? What advantage could be gained from remembering Trafalgar? Where do you draw the line? We've been in a lot of wars, and we've had many victories.

I agree that the English could use a little more national pride, but celebrating Trafalgar? It seems a little pointless.

We've a lot to celebrate about defeating offensive European federalists. Pity it's not happening now.

Anyway. It's not so much the lack of celebration that bothers me as the lack of any apparent awareness or knowledge whatsoever. The most I saw to mark it was a 7-question quiz on the BBC News website, and a few documentaries on History and Military History channels. Admittedly 204 isn't the roundest, most noteworthy of anniversaries, but the point stands.

But being in 1805 wouldn't help any in finding out whether the day was remembered or celebrated afterwards. :)

Well they named a square after it and put a bloody big collumn up in it.

I barely know what you mean. Was his dad also a political TV person? I guess that rings a bell. Richard?

I'm a bit thick.

Indeed, he of the spaghetti tree April Fool and one of Britain's most respected broadcasters.

Ohhh, I like the spaghetti tree story!

He has a face perfectly designed for shoving into big pies and sucking the filling out.

Are you talking about Gordon Brown again? :)

At the beginning of the show Jack Straw said "it's really not fair", I expected Nick Griffen to make a comment about Frank Bruno and bums. He let himself down.

They have plenty of time air their views when they're not acting in the capacity of an unbiased presenter of the news or debate moderator.

For what its worth Griffin is incidentally supported by the latest DNA evidence in his view that subsequent invasions have had little impact on the gene pool. (I am sceptical about it myself, as I always rather favoured the fire-and-the-sword theory of the Saxon settlements.)

Really? Rather interesting - any (easily digestable) links?

No, he let you down !

I like the way she treats Nick like an almost harmless idiot, rather than getting angry.

Quite right. That's how everyone should view and treat him.

That's fine in an interview - in fact it is what they should be doing. But chairing a panel is rather different. (It is why I am always reluctant to chair meetings - I have to keep my gob shut.)

The more Griffin was ganged up on the better it served his interest.

Aargh! I forgot to untick the subscribe to this thread box!

Right I'm off to clear my inbox - and not in a good way. :(

Like I said, I'm in the minority. :)
