Your Top 10 Lists... Page 7

Years ago I once walked past him in the street and said hello thinking I knew him in 'real life'. At least he replied and with a nice smile. :)

An art teacher at my school did that to Anna Friel, and she reacted similarly. Pleased

I told Randy this story back in July. Good story, didn't feel like typing (my arm really hurts today) so I copy/pasted.

I was in my first year of college (went to St. Bonaventure) and we got a chance to go to Toronto for the weekend. So, I was wandering around in Eaton Centre (a ridiculously huge shopping centre)waiting to go see Miss Saigon a few streets over. The girl I was wandering with kept blathering on about how she wondered if we'd see anybody famous. I said, Yeah, maybe a baseball player, because The Blue Jays were at home that day. Well, after an hour of her people watching I said we should get to the theatre. I turned on my heel and literally ran into Chris Rock, who I later found out was there for some stand up thing. I said, "Jesus Christ, sorry" (yeah, I cursed in front of a celebrity on a trip from a Catholic university). He said, "No problem," and turned to go on. The twit I was shopping with said in her loudest, most embarrassing voice, "Was that Eddie Murphy?" (I guess in her melting pot town in Ohio he is the only black man they know of). Chris Rock turned around and said, "No, I'm Chris Rock." He smiled and walked away. She bragged for the rest of the semester about meeting him in Toronto and I know she had no clue who he was.

Erm, I suppose I'm going to have to apologise, judging by the number of fans he has on this site, but just what is this Woody Allen infatuation people have? Several have listed their top 10 Woody films as if it's obligitory to love them. While I agree that he himself is funny, brilliant etc. his movies are films made by a second rate film maker who has never been told bluntly what his faults and excesses are. The man took an eternity to discover what a narrative required, to stop it looking merely like a patchwork of sketches, and he swamps every film he directs with his heavy, garish style. And far from being an original or even a 'genius' as some have cheaply said, I honestly don't think the man has his own original style. He started off as a wannabe Buster Keaton cum Grouch Marx, then moved into his wannabe Bergman period, but still couldn't stop cracking those same worn out jokes, and eventually when he finally, finally seemed to get tired of making films about himself, he smothered us in nostalgia, (his own self related nostalgia though!) Why so many seem to worship this over indulged, self obsessive nut is one of life's great mysteries, for me. A talent yes, but a good film maker??? Eh?

Really? There are ten types of fruit?

Wow, that's a rarity, a woman who doesn't like bananas. I'm not mad about them either but have hardly known a female who isn't.

I knew that would be a controversial list.

There you go with your Woody Allen obsession again.

Bananas would be at number 11, but they bruise easily.

Satsumas are like clementines, small easy peel oranges with no pips.
