It just seemed a bit too rehearsed and weak. Kind of like he was trying too hard.

Well, I shouldn't worry, next year it will probably be hosted by Michael McIntyre, Russell Howard or Jack Whitehall. The ants are inheriting the earth.

Harry Hill and Armando Iannucci had by far the funniest acceptance speeches.

I loved Harry Hill with his plastic carrier bag, and how he introduced everyone on stage behind him including JLS. :D

Armando had the funniest comments "BNP designed award", "Pamela Anderson and Catherine Tate's new character" etc.

Worst acceptance speech was Peter Kay. He couldn't think of one funny thing to say.

Well, perhaps he too was at a bit of a loss as to why he has been awarded an 'Outstanding Contribution to Comedy' award? I mean, he's done some good shows, but it's all a bit soon to be making that sort of judgement about his career.

They were the only funny acceptance speeches.

Except Michael McIntyre...

They were certainly the pick of the bunch.

I know, it was ridiculous. But that was the only reason he turned up, well that and to plug his new tour.

That Peter Kay Thing was great, Phoenix Nights Series 1 was very good, Series 2 was alright...then everything after that becomes gradually worse.

I can't even really judge his stand-up anymore because he has repackaged and recycled the same material for so long it doesn't even exist within its own right.

:O ;)

If I am not mistaken, I am certain Peter Kay recieved a similar accolade a few years previous. Pheonix Nights was undeniably crass however as a stand up comedian he has been untouchable for many years an so therefore he deserves this award.

If last night proves anything it is that many less talented performers are raging with jealousy at Peter Kay and Sir McIntyre. They use the comedy awawards, the only time they out number these geniuses, to attempt to bully them and trivialise their achievements, however as both a fan of comedy and a human being, I am pleased to say talent came through in the end.

I think you are mistaken.

It may have been for the writers award rather than a lifetime achievement one. I recall Dave Spikey complaining that he had co-written many of Kay's projects and thus felt he should also have received the award.

I believe you, David.
