Grandma's House - Series 1 Page 7

Yes, he did. Grandma's House was the last thing he did, as far as I'm aware.

Boyd Hilton just gave this a good review on Front Row. For what that's worth.

Now, this is a show that will triumph.

Zeitgeist? Hit.

References? Hit.

High End Content? Hit.

I say this now - the first episode is world class. And it gets better.

Oh, I should also add: Jessica Stephenson is dire. Unfunny and not much to look at. Awful.

I am considering live blogging this on here.

Build up:

55in Full HD TV.
Imported larger x3.
Live chat set up with BBC source.

Opening thoughts:

Disclosure - I have already seen a rough cut of this, but have been told that I can expect a few changes here and there.

And we're off.

1m: Title sequence? This works. Factual.

1-2m: For a season premiere, this is remarkably fluid.

3m: The picture quality is astounding.

4m: Dialogue is Shandling-esque on a UK-Jewish tip. The mother is Arty.

5m: The mother is running the f**k out of this show. Skillsets.

6m: Will we see Amstell's Sexual Choice brought into play?

7m: Amstell is a student of Seinfeld.

8m: Woman with moustache is not working. Should be younger and better looking.

10m: Pace dropping.

12m: Amstell eating a banana. Subtext?

13m: Interesting choice of cut-shots on Amstell. Was told about this. It is interesting. For sure.

15m: Sagging a little. Need more zing, the scenes are too long.

16m: Clive enters. Nice start.

17m: Good line from Amstell, well delivered. Clive is doing well.

I'm not sure I can make it to the end of the episode. Let alone sit through six. It's a bit monotone.

20m: Sexuality breached. Nicely done.

Sorry, Jim, I interrupted your flow. Do go on.

21m: pacing is still a little off target.

LIVe Chat: 'pacing issues sorted'

I was really looking forward to this - I love Buzzcocks - but this is awful - it's like The Royle Family got stolen by the gay guy who makes Ricky Gervais say "Are you having a laugh?" in Extras - witless, smug, rubbish. I'm disappointed. Did he really leave to do this? Thank God Mark Lamarr didn't leave to be in a Vicar Of Dibley spin off!
