Kevin Webster to quit

I am shocked that Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster, the greatest 'everyman' character in TV history, says he'll quit if his character doesn't stand by Sally when she discovers she has cancer.
I was wondering if you thought Le Vell was being a bit of a tit for taking his artistic intregrity too seriously, considering it is only a soap, albeit the best written one.

I recognise most of the words but none of the above otherwise makes sense to me. Which soap is this, Ronnie?

As a general rule though, I find it massively hilarious when an actor gets all prissy and says "My character wouldn't do this". If they really want a say they can go and write the f**king show themselves. They're paid to do a job and should be grateful they're in a well-paid TV soap and not giving blow jobs round Piccadilly Circus in order to pay the rent. :)

I agree Ronnie.

;)

I remember him from when I was force to watch it as a kid. I have no opinion.

I don't really agree Leevil, I just like to be agreeable. :)
Chimps don't use soap anyway. Or do they?

He'll be gone. As soon as the powers-that-be read the article, his card is marked. They can't sack him straight away like Bruce Jones(Les Battersby) for foul-mouthed rant about his co-stars; downing several pints of Guinness and revealing the top secret outcome of the Tracy Barlow murder trial - but I bet his contract won't be renewed.

Michael Le Vell is an TV actor who's been playing 'Kevin' in a long-running 'soap' for 26 years - he threatens to quit in a profession where 80% plus are unemployed as actors? Duh! Oh and he isn't one of the better actors in Corrie - double Duh!

Whenever I hear stories like this I always think the actor is just looking for a way out, maybe bored with years of playing the same old role etc. Who can blame him? 26 years in the same job is enough for anyone.

I've never watched Coronation Street, not once, not ever, I've spent most of my adult life living in another country, and even I know who Kevin Webster is.

Well that just shows what a cultured man you are, Kevin.

My cousins were professional Kevin Webster lookey likeys! They're indentical twins except one had a moustache the other didn't; so one was Kevin with a 'tache and his brother did it when Kevin lost the 'tache.

Corrie are pretty ruthless if you step out of line, they don't take any nonsense from a bunch of luvvies. I recently saw Michael LeVell fronting some dubious looking financial company in a advert at the back of the Metro so at least he's got something lined up.
Also read lovable loser Curly is returning to the street.

This is exactly what I thought when I first heard but then I can sort of see his point of view. He must spend a big part of his life devoting himself to getting into Kevin's headspace and I am sure he probably considers himself an artist, and that's why I was interested to know if any of you as artists, who no doubt will worry about your scripts being totally changed by producers, had any sympathy with him.

Don't worry Tim, I was with you and this one also and it wasn't until someone finally mentioned 'Corrie' that I understood what this thread was about.

So is he saying 'If my pretend character doesn't stand by another pretend character while she suffers pretend cancer, then I'm leaving'? Did I get that right?

As someone who regularly confuses real life with soap operas, I hope Kevin does / doesn't quit depending on the public opinion whipped up by the newspapers. I hope to meet him in real life one day and yell 'Why did you leave that cancer woman, you heartless bastard!' as he tries to do his daily shop round Asda. Perhaps I could offer him out for a fight in front of his wife and kids, that would make me feel good.

In the meantime, I will write his character a letter asking him to stand by Gail or whoever in her time of need. Ironically, even though I think his character is real, I will send the letter to Granada studios.

:D
