The BFI Archive is just an institute off Tottenham Court Road where you can book in to view archive material. They order it up from various affiliated archives like the BBC, ITV or their own holdings.

The BFI over at Southbank is a whole different affair.

Thanks Ben.

That's interesting and helpful. As I don't generally travel to Central London now, it is more likely that I will be trying to negotiate their website. It's a bit daunting because there is also stuff out there on radio which is my main area historically, especially at the Universities of Bournemouth and Kent, but I've had a lot of problems with those sites. They seem to have restrictions on anyone who isn't doing a specialist degree there which is annoying as I want to access a lot of stuff from the 1970s without doing anything academic.

My old Department used to use their cinema for Film Club.

Not sure we had a film club. There was snooker in the basement for the men and a knitting circle for women. After 2000, when the Government became more enlightened about equal rights, they only kept the knitting.

The Informant, not the US one, but the 2013 French production set mostly in Gibralter. A bit confusing, what with their being 4 different languages being spoken, and with the protagonist working for both the British and French authorities, and there's a lot happening, but overall an interesting film, with a fittingly downbeat ending. Not a typical example of the genre by any means.

Just seen "The Theory of Everything".

Good film with some brilliant acting. He really looked like Hawking.

Another great actor in it though is David Thewlis who I think is incredible. He is so versatile and seems to really be the person he's playing.

I'm about to watch some Chris Rock stand up show.

Not seen much of his stuff before, so looking forward to it.

Like him. :D

I have watched about 40 minutes of 'Frank' which I foolishly thought would actually resemble Frank Sidebottom. Very disappointed as I was a big fan. Am turning it off now :(

Another film I gave a good go before turning off after 30 Min.

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie.

I watched The Equalizer last night which was pretty good if a little unbelievable by the end.

Denzel Washington, however, is fantastic in it. Really, really good performance by him.

Is that a big film version of the Edwardwoodwardwoodwardwoooward TV series or have they pinched the title?

L&H - sons of the desert

Yes, it's a big screen version of the Woodward TV show. Which I've never seen.

I watched Interstellar last night and found it rather average. It looked great, that's for sure, but I found it a bit long. Plot was good, but I got a bit confused towards the end with all the fifth dimension stuff.

SPOILER ALERT

I liked the bit behind the book shelves...it's like a Lynchian schizo-fever dream/nightmare. But I could have done without the crappy Hollywood ending after that.

Speaking of which, Independence Day - good film but the end........oh dear. Sick Will Smith went down a notch for me after that.
