For all I know Spiderman might well turn out to be brilliant but there's a limit to how excited you can get about a film directed by a man who's mainly made music videos and a mildly annoying rom com starring Zooey Deschanel.
As a lifelong fan of the Spider-Man comics I have to say that this new version of the character looks like it could be the best yet. I thought the previous three movies were okay but by no means great. There was more wrong with them than there was right in my opinion.
Having a new features director take on the job excites me more than some old hack. Jonathan Glazer made great pop videos and Sexy Beast was a fantastic debut. The attitude that a pop video director cannot make a good movie is a little outdated in my humble opinion.
Of course music video makers can turn out great directors (David Fincher springs to mind) but the mildly annoying rom com (500 Days of Summer) from the same director was no Sexy Beast or Fight Club, and had some pretty leaden storytelling in it.
To be fair I walked out of the room when my girlfriend put on the DVD of 500 Days of Summer - I simply had no interest. But as a fan of the Spider-Man comics I do feel that this new movie could be an improvement on the Sam Raimi films, simply because I think Raimi's films missed the mark by a long shot.
The Muppets...I'm a little in love with Walter.
I'm delighted Tommy from Never Let Me Go wasn't chopped up for his organs.
But instead got to take part in an experiment which turned him into a mutant spider.
Gosford Park and Serbian zombie movie Zone of the Dead. One of them was quite good. The other, not so good.
Serbian zombies MUST have been better.

You'd think, but it was a damp squib with some truly awful acting in the first half. Still, it had the black guy in from Dawn of the Dead, so it wasn't a total washout.

It's pretty good. Although I've never had the urge to rewatch it.

Although this Dodgeball malarkey isn't too bad.
